View Full Version : What is the last handgun you got in 2004?

Mine was a trade. I traded a much beloved but not often shot Bersa 383-A in nickel and wood grips for a nice Star BM in brushed chome. It was a Spanish Secret Police pistol and I have never seen another one like it.
BTW, I got it on the last day of 2004. I don't know what my 1st gun of 2005 will be but I am pretty sure it is going to be a Rock Island Arms 1911A1.

I just bought this Springfield from THR member NJ3. It arrived on Thursday, but since I'm always delayed on the background check (although always approved - eventually! :fire: ), it's not only my last gun of 2004, but also my first gun of 2005!

It was the only handgun I got in 2004.
Got it for $300 basically brand new (had 120 shots through it) from a friend who needed cash.

My last handgun was a used FEG Hi Power which has the World's Crappiest Trigger (tm). I haven't decided what to do with it yet.

BryanP,
Have you tried to remove the mag safety? Hi Powers tend to have pretty poor trigger but when the mag safety is removed, they lighten up quite a bit. It is something that can be done at home with no special tools or skill. Just take it out and enjoy.
You can find links on the steps you need to take with a little searching or someone might post a link for you. Go to a Hi Power forum and I am sure you find it as a "sticky" somewhere.

Very nearly was a Springfield WW II Champion .45 that was calling my name from a gun shop near my in-laws' in Charlotte when we were down for Christmas. It fit me so nicely, and I have to confess I really like those wood grips with the U.S. in them.
I was able to overcame that temptation, so my last for 2004 was a 2.25" Ruger SP101 I picked up back in September. I've been wanting one of these since I shot my uncle's a few years ago, and I am quite pleased with this one.

A parked Security-Six from one of Wildalaska's auctions. I was in his shop and he was about to put it up for auction. He offered to sell it to me on the spot. I declined. He said to make a bid. Got home, got to thinking, and put in a bid that I was sure would be beat. It wasn't. :D Of course, one expense leads to another, so I just had to get a DeSantis thumb break scabbard to go with it. Seems like nobody makes an IWB for four inch medium frame revolvers any more!

Bought for occaisional pocket carry. Unfortunately due to my recent schedule have only had it out twice for about 250 rounds, so not quite ready for carry. I can say the first 250 have been flawless.

A coworker brought in a S&W Model 14 6" .38spl with a shoulder holster that his grandfather had and after the guy passed away, his grandmother didn't want it. He took it to a local gunshop to see if the owner would give him some idea about its worth or if it could be consigned.
Apparently the shop didn't to be bothered with it as he came back with it and mumbled something about $200. He didn't seem to want to deal with the shop so I looked it over and wound up giving him the $200 for it, the shoulder holster (from A.E. Nelson, Salem OR) and about 30 rounds of really old Federal .38spl round nose in a plastic case.
Turns out it's about 90-95% and it looks like it had only been fired a few times. The rifling looks like brand new and outside from a bit of the bluing worn off at the muzzle due to being in the holster.
First range outing gave me 2" groups at 25 yds after a 1-click left windage adjustment. Think I got a deal!!

Springfield 1911 was last of 2004 in november.
It was supposed to be a 1911 colt for last of 2004 but layoff hurt the gun fund so it sits on layaway to be liberated with in 2-3 weeks so it will be first of 2005.

Brass Balls, if I carried it, yes I'd carry it C&L.
My brother carries his RAP440 that way.
It is a nice little pistol, however the 401 and 440 share magazines. This causes a little problem for the 401 if you also have a 440 because I think the .40 stretches out the feed lips on the magazine and creates double feeds when you put them back in the 401.
Since I got this gun from my brother, he used both .40 and 9mm in the same mags so I need to get a more reliable mag before I'd carry this gun (or pound on the feed lips until I get this one to feed right). Plus I only have 1 mag and I like to pack a spare.
But with a good magazine I wouldn't hesitate to carry the RAP ... its a great little pistol.

Taurus 455 Ti from CDNN. It's on closeout and the price was going up. Wanted a gun in that configuration and it looked like my last chance to get it.
Titanium 5 shot .45 ACP 4" barrel with fixed sights and no ports. No body else makes one. It was a little rough when I got it but it's pretty decent now. The crane is still a bit tight, even after completely disassembling the gun, cleaning, and lubing with moly. I'm guessing it will wear in eventually and loosen up.
It's really light making it a bit challenging to shoot but easy to carry. It's also regulated for 185 grain bullets making 230 gr shoot quite a bit high in the light gun. It's rated for +P ammo but the bullets pull on my +P spec reloads. Normal pressure loads seem fine with it. I might have to try some +P factory before I make a final judgement on it.

A stainless, enhanced Govt Model - - Don't know the exact model number. It appears to be predecessor to the current XSE. Has angled slide serrations in rear but none in front, and the flat, solid rib atop the slide. A rather homely beavertail grip safety. Came with Colt medallion rubber stocks, since replaced with dark, checked wood.
I was shopping for a GI-type a few months ago, but ran across this one and "rescued" it from a pawn shop at a decent price. A man should be able to get along with two or three 1911s, but you hate to ignore an orphan . . . .

Mid December I decided to have a look see into these new fangled Glocks, so I rented some at a nearby range and darn it if I didn't really like the little buggers. Shot myself silly with various calibers and was looking for a little home gun so I settled on the 27 in .40 caliber, and purchased one in mid December. Now I'm a large man who has fired most everything that can be squeezed into spitting lead so when I say the recoil is nothing to even discuss, take that with your grain of salt, and I had to slap on one of those mag extension deals to help my paws grab on some, but it's a fun little gun to kill some evil targets with. Cranked out over 500 rounds so far with nary a problem...was a tad worried about going from the WalMart range-type ammo to the Corbon 135 JHP, but they fed without a hitch and barked not at all.

The last handgun I bought last year (2004) was a Comanche III .357 magnum. This revolver is marketed through SGS-Firestorm, and made in Argentina. The one I bought was blue steel with a 3" barrel.
Unfortunately, I fell on a period of little cash at a time when I needed more in order to feed my family, so I sold it. It was sort of a shame really. For a cheap gun, it wasn't too bad. It had a decent finish to it, and was not a bad shooter.

Well, my final firearm for 2004 was the Taurus PT940SSPRL, picked up on the day before Christmas, as it were. It's my second .40 caliber by Taurus. I've only fired 50 rounds through the pipe, so far. But, it shoots well. I'll have to put a lot more rounds through it, to really wring it out.
I can always use the practice. I've already ordered a nice holster for it. I'll
be looking forward to getting that holster, as I'm making this one my CCW.
