When you go to shoot your carry gun do you wear it into the range or take it out and carry it in?

Wear it to the range and keep it concealed. Shoot range-version of same gun. I have two g30s - one for range and one for carry and switch them every month or so.

I wrote a very long nasty statement about the sh*t-hole that maryland is. However, in a moment of better thought I deleted it.
Bottom line is you have better not have a loaded mag (or dreams of a loaded mag) in the car with the gun! I'm sure there are 1000 more maryland laws that I have missed. However, 46 lawyers couldn't figure them out in 1033 years.
Anyway. All sarcascm aside. Check your state laws to make sure you're not going to get into trouble.
In free states I usually carried into the range, let the range safety know I was carrying and shot as I choose to. Again, here......................

I suggest and do obey the rules for your range. Some request that you do not enter the business with a loaded weapon. Some, especially informal outdoor ranges without a gun store front do not. Mine is that type. I typically carry loaded at the range especially if I am the only one there. I also generally shoot at least a mag of the carry ammo almost every trip. Play by the rules.

I carry my gun to and from the range. Of course, I have a CHL permit, so it is not a big deal to do that.

My range does not allow loaded weapons other than on the firing line.
But as they said when I was getting my orientation, "concealed means concealed!" ;)
So I wear it concealed, but kinda sorta get it out in the open to shoot, and it kinda ends up loaded again and going into my pocket or IWB holster.

Usually I would carry it in, sign in and get supplies if needed then unholster at the shooting station. I kind of have a problem with the indoor ranges/stores that sell guns and provide training then don't allow anyone to (legally) carry in their store.

Mine is worn into the range and when ready at the line, I unholster and fire off the carry ammo. It's always the first gun I fire. Nowadays though, I'm just waiting for my renewal to come through. (Damn wayne county!)

Certainly - down to ''what goes'' for you in given state/range/location.
I am lucky - my ranges are all private and often not that full - even empty. So - I carry and shoot what I carry when I wish. Only time that comes off is if shooting something different at an IDPA shoot. Quite a few folks carry on range - it is not a problem ... I am glad to say.

All the ranges I've used recently just required that guns remained in the holster until you were on the range, in between the range dividers. So I carry my gun in, then unload my duty mag, and switch to my range mags when I get on my lane.
However, I once went to the Bass Pro Shop near Dallas which required all guns be unloaded and inspected by their security folks before you came into the store. That was before I was a cop, and I didn't have a CHL in TX at the time, so I didn't think too much of it at the time.

An indoor range I frequent poses an interesting dilemma. There are no "no loaded firearms" signs on the way IN to the place. However, once you shoot, and are leaving the range area, there is a "no loaded guns past this point" on the way OUT into the store-area. I always get a kick out of it. I carry concealed in and if I happen to shoot my CCW, I take it out, shoot it, re-load it and discreetly re-conceal it. I'm not trying to break the rules of the range, but their ambiguity just leads to confusion, and leads me to make my own conclusions.

I have my own range so the question is moot but I do know that the local club, of which I am a member, bans concealed carry at the range. The say this is for safety reasons. I only shoot at the club at matches.

The indoor range we go to has a great sign - "weapons must be holstered or cased." No problem. The outdoor says no loaded weapons being handled. No problem - it's holstered. The badge and ID can get me out of hack if they do notice it being concealed, but I try to avoid slipping up.

I bring my usual carry gun to the range in a pistol rug to shoot. I'm carrying something else at the time. :)

Furious, I do the same. The range I shoot at is public, is free, is outdoor in the country, and doesn't have any authority figures present. Which is excellent. However, I've seen some very dangerous acts that went beyond simple ignorance, including people coming to the line under the influence. That's always my cue to hit the dusty trail, and in cases like that backward glances and a locked and loaded but concealed gun are a great comfort.

I have a CCW permit for Pennsylvania and usually have my "carry piece" (Para Ord P12-45 ) on when I go to the range. Being aware of all the aforementioned signs on loaded weapons, I just walk in, get assigned a spot, and proceed to set up and fire. The last weapon I shoot before I leave the range is my carry piece. If I'm carrying in an IWB holster, I slip the piece out, take off my jacket or cover shirt without being too obvious and proceed to fire, and when finished and my cover goes back on...I just slip it back into the IWB and go on my way. While I do recycle my carry ammo, since I carry premium HPs, I may cycle some FMJ down range and then reload the HPs back into the mag, put one in the chamber, put on the safety, and reholster. Never had a problem...

My range, a private facility, says no loaded weapons except on the firing line. Once I enter the grounds thru the security gate, I'll unload my carry pistol. The pistol range is about 300 yards from the entry gate and there is room to stop and unload my pistol.
Although I usually go to the range in the middle of the week and on some days I'm the only one there, I will still unload. My feeling is that the club is a "safe" place to be once inside the facility and I have no reason to go against the rules. I have to drive about 30 miles to get to the range and IMHO, it's not worth the risk of losing my membership to carry a loaded pistol where the range rules specifically prohibit it. Somebody having an AD or ND and possibly injuring themselves or others behind the firing line would be a terrible thing.

I carry my carry gun to the range to shoot it. Have a CCW license.
I also do draw/fire drills in the garage, thanks to Speer's plastic training bullets. Most of my draw practice happens there.

Considering that the only pistol I own is my Glock 19, yes, I shoot my carry gun everytime I go to the range

While I do recycle my carry ammo, since I carry premium HPs, I may cycle some FMJ down range and then reload the HPs back into the mag, put one in the chamber, If you're recycling the same round more than once or twice, remember to check for bullet setback. Repeated chamberings can reduce the OAL and send the pressure through the roof. Probably not a problem with .45 ACP, but still something to keep in mind. :)

I'm allowed to CCW in my state.
Where I go shoot , I wear it to the range. My practice is to arrive, and approach a target that stays "set up" and shoot from concealed my carry loads, mag change and do another drill.
I do this to keep familar with draw from concealment, after getting out of vehicle and walking to target area. I may jog , or approach from a different angle.
I kinda doubt if in real life I am going to be all "situated", relaxed and all ...so I prefer to keep things as "real life" as can.
I often shoot by myself. I always always carry a second Gun Loaded on person.[ CCW] It would really suck to be finished shooting a mag / cylinder and be caught with an unloaded gun if trouble were to come calling...
Before I leave the range, I clean the chamber, extraction , and inspect the carry gun(s). Lube the rails, load up the mags with fresh carry rds. I shoot at least a couple of mags. Last Mag, I DON'T shoot to slidelock , I insert a fresh mag, top off spares and that is how I CCW that gun(s).
I know the guns run as I leave the range...

When shooting my carry gun (.45 cal SIG P220), I wear it into the
range UNLOADED; and in a proper holster. LOADED WEAPONS are
only allowed on the firing line at the actual time of firing; and under
the direction of the police rangemaster. NO EXCEPTIONS. There are
class rooms and other training facilities on site; so this is NO PLACE
for an accident.
Best Wishes,

Thanks Carpettbaggerr...I know what you're gettin at...I was just saying that Hydrashoks are a bit expensive to waste on paper...so I unload them from the mag...add FMJ...shoot...put HPs back in mag....clp...wipe...insert mag...etc

Last year I was out in the backwoods off a dirt road where I usually shoot, I had several guns & ammo set up in the back of my truck when five not at all good looking boys drove slowly by, turned around, drove by again, pulled off the road about 100 yds from me and four got out and started walking down the road in my direction, had their hands in their jackets, toboggans nearly to their eyes, not a good scenario at all. As I was figuring out how close to let them get before I told them to back off my shooting buddy drove up, he passed them on the way in, got out of his truck, saw me with a BHP and a AK handy, took out his .44 magnum and fired three shots in the air. The visitors executed an about face and left. If I'm shooting I'm carrying, usually a BHP or a Beretta 96.

You enter my range through the gun store. There are no signs prohibiting carry into the range. However, once in the range there is a sign that says no loaded guns can be carried from the range into the store. Go figure. So technically, you can carry in, but you can't carry out.
My practice at the range is to always have a concealed weapon on me that I do NOT shoot at the range. Generally, it is one of my back-ups and not my primary carry. No one knows its there; I consider it my insurance if anything goes haywire at the range.

I wear mine to the range loaded. When I get there the mag of carry loads goes in my pocket and I go to work with FMJ ammo. I shoot at outdoor ranges that are largely unregulated except by the people who are there shooting so it isn't a big deal.
I have a PA CCW permit and I live in Clearfield county. It is pretty common to see pick-ups with a rifle hanging in the back window. There is a large sporting goods/gun shop directly across the street from the courthouse. It isn't uncommon to see people walking down the street with a rifle where I am from. Sheriff's deputies sometimes pass them on the street and no one bats an eye.
It was a great place to grow up and I doubt that it gets much more gun friendly.
