Nothing at the TACOM website to support that specific question, but TACOM did recently contract with Ruger and SigArms to purchase 5000 Ruger KP95D's and 5000 SigPro 2022's. Both are 9mm and will be shipped to the Anniston (AL) Munitions Center.

What is TACOM?

Why would they buy such a small number of each of those? Pilot program?

I don't think that is true but its a shame that it isn't. Not to start a flame war but IMO, the G17 is a hell of a lot better combat side arm than the Beretta.

The Marines buying Glock pistols was a case of a gun writer getting hoaxed, and failing to check his sources and facts.

This story happened last year, and was was a brief flash in the pan on the internet.

Bottom line: The writer was GREATLY embarrassed, his credibility is gone, and the Marines didn't buy any Glocks.

Yes - they bought the Glocks. It is part of a new program the USMC is working on - TJUTFT. That's Throwing Junk Under Tanks For Traction. :D

Flame away..... ;)

The US mil had the chance to test glocks in the XM9 program, threw it out because it didn't meet their requirements for a double action pistol (second strike ability). There's some logic to it, a lot of military ammo has hard primers. I can't think of any reason they'd change their mind so I wouldn't expect to see a Glock or any other "safe action" pistol in the running.

these small buys are probably a stopgap measure, the FHS program is the next big thing. It's interesting to note their preference for a traditional double action with decocker only (KP95D and SP2022)

Glock didn't participate in the XM9 tests. Gaston Glock didn't submit the design not only because it didn't meet the critiria but he also didn't want to release patent rights.

the revolutionary Glock 17 pistol was withheld from the U.S. XM9 trials at the behest of its inventor, Gaston Glock, who would not accept U.S. government requirements to release the winning contender's production and patent rights to open bidding.

All I know is that the Police academy in Baghdad was handing BRAND NEW Glocks to its new recruits. I cried when I found one for sale on the streets for a hundred bucks (american)!!! and I couldn't take it back with me!! :(
