A friend of mine gave me a Chip McCormic Drop In Rear sight that resembles the Novak style sight. It has a piece that slides into the standard 1911 dovetail cut and is threaded to accept the sight. The underside of the sight is machined to the radius shapt of the top of the slide and totally covers the dovetail. I think it looks great but was wondering if any of you have any experience with this system. It looks like it is machined from aluminum. Any info would be appreciated. The reason that I am considering using this sight is to bring my point of impact up a little. The sight is about 1/8" higher than my existing rear sight and I think it will work perfectly for my application.

I think I heard/saw something about that over on the 1911 fourm.
Don't remember hearing anything bad about it.

That was the stock sight on my DW PTE-S. I replaced it with a set of Novaks after the sight came loose twice.
Sure I could have loctite'd it, but if you have a dovetail cut, then why not use that attachment point? Better security of the rear sight, and it will likely stay put even if the rear sight set screw loosens and falls out.
Unless, that is, you happen to be shooting an Ed Brown with the "slip-fit" system. Incidentally -- that's a very nice design for rear sight adjustability, that the CM screw-on type does not offer.
Have a great one,
Rich
