New Savage FP10, Q on bases, and snap caps

First I got everything from one place (so I could be sure everything would fit together correctly) and it looks like I have the wrong bases for my scope mount. I have one flat one and one curved one (on the bottom). It looks like 2 of the curved ones are what I need, but I'm not sure if I should have 2 of the same ones front and back or if they are supposed to be slightly different. I know the flat one I have is totally wrong, but now I've lost confidence in the shop giving me the correct one. (BTW I have a Weaver top mount 46 part number 48046, and 61 part number 48061)

Also, is it ok to dry fire this? or should I be getting some snap caps?

Thanks,
Mark

Without seeing the rifle and the bases, I would say you have the wrong stuff. I think my 10FP had flat bases both front and rear, but I haven't seen my guns in almost a year.

As for the snap caps, I think it is a good idea, and I got them for mine. I don't think you will hurt the rifle without them, but it couldn't hurt to get them.

the top of the receiver is defiantly curved, and the one curved one fits it well. I just don't know if their is a slight taper in the receiver tube that would require a slightly thicker base on the front or something.

I'm sure the flat one is not correct.

I just don't want to mess up my new rifle or scope because of having the wrong bases.... (not to mention losing accuracy because of scope movement....)

Can you take the bases back and get different ones?

Check around on-line for part numbers from the maker and see if you got the wrong parts.

I didn't install my bases or rings, I left that to my smith, but I do kind of remember that the bottoms were rounded to fit the receiver.

Good luck.

I don't use 'Weaver' brand mounts but I bought two pairs of Savage mounts and one of them was wrong... either mispackaged by Leupold or mis-manufactured. One set worked just fine, other set, I couldn't even get 2" high at 100 yards.

These things do happen... not very often, but sometimes.

I dry fire all my centerfire rifles and have never had a failure of any sort. Rimfires, generally no but centerfires should be OK.

I talked to the guy today, and found out that they changed the receiver on the new FP-10's, the new ones use the same mounts front and back, the old ones used a flat one (in the front I think) and a curved one (in the back I think). He requested the new ones, but who he ordered from messed up.

He had the right one there, so I just had to go down there and swap it out with him.
