I have found 2 online sources for 38 spl. mid range wadcutter ammo.

"Zero" from Roze Distributing is 750 fps.

Miwall is 675 fps.

I just want target ammo for punching paper. I do NOT want any "leading"....ugh.

Is 675 enough to stabilize the bullet? 148 WC 6" bbl.

I would think 675 fps would be just fine. My dad shoots almost nothing but 148-grain .38 wadcutters at 700 fps in a 6-inch Python.

As always, YMMV, IMHO, and depends on the barrel.

More important than the 75 fps difference in the two rounds is the composition or hardness of the bullets. Do they say whether they are hard cast or not?

Intuitively, I doubt you'd get much leading from either round for anything other than pure soft lead.

Bullet lube is a lot more important than hardness IMO. And THE most important thing of all is bullet fit to the bore. If the chamber mouths are a little tighter than the bore it will lead no matter what you do. Same if the bullets are sized a tad small, never gonna win that battle.

Most commercial bullets are way harder than they need to be, don't worry about hardness. Worry about the quality of the lube and fit to the gun. Loads that are too slow will lead sometimes, and once speed is picked up a little (read pressure in place of speed) the leading will stop. Slow loads work better with fast powders.
