How do you buy powder

How do you buy the powder you use for reloading?
I buy in group purchase through my club, usually in lots of 30-40 pounds. Club order usually exceeds 100 pounds.
I get very low prices this way.
The same for primers. I usually order 30K-50K per order. Club order is 250K or more. Less than $13/thousand

I buy mine from Georgia Arms at local gun shows. Powder is $14.95/lb for most types and primers is $14.95/k for std types.

I buy large cans of shotgun - pistol powder through my Trap and Skeet club. I usually get one pound cans for magnums and rifles at a gunshow or one of two area dealers... the cheaper one is farther away, so total cost is a wash.

None of the above I buy at local shows, in single # cans, usually from out of state powder vendors. Prices runs from $12-17 per #. Local gunshops want $16-$22 per pound.
Primers here have been getting cheaper due to competition amongst the out of state gunshow retailers. I've bought Winchester LP for as low as $13 per k, but usually pay $14-15. Prices at local gunshops are downright ridiculous.
(I see Georgia Arms here at our shows, but they don't sell powder  I wish they would!)

buy it from the local shop , theyare always rotating stock so I know its decent and I don'rt like to keep a large amount of powder on hand due to the changing conditions ( heat ,humidity ) around my house .

I buy my powder from Jeff Bartlett. About $7.50 to $8.50 per lb.
My primers are purchased from a distributor who is local and also gives a price break for LEOs. Primers are between 12.50 and 13.00 (Win) depending on type.
I try to keep no less than 75 lbs powder and 20,000 primers in stock.

I usually buy a couple 8 pounders from a shop about 100 miles away, primarily for 12 and 20 ga shotguns, but Clays and Universal or International Clays make great pistol powders too. I buy a couple one pounders once in a while, like Longshot for 12 and 20 hunting loads, WSF for shotguns and pistols, or 2400, H110 or Bluedot for magnum handgun loads. I am currently down to less than 4 pounds of powder total, and out of all primers except 209's. Guess it is time to take a ride and spend several hundred bucks:what:
The shop I go to is about 100 miles away, but for two 8 pound jugs of powder I save more than the gas cost, add up the savings on shot, primers, wads and so on and it saves me $100 or more per trip. In the past I have been in the area for work often enough that a special trip has not been necessary. The local guys all want to sell me one pound cans, one bag of wads, one bag of shot, one box of 100 bulets and one thousand primers ETC at a time at suggested retail prices, they are not willing to supply me what I want so I go elsewhere.

You didn't offer enough choices. I buy powder in quantities of at least 8 pounds, usually although I do buy one pounders every so often to try a new powder or for a powder that I use only occasionally but I still want to keep on hand. I try to buy from my local dealer, but he isn't a very creative businessman. If the one wholesaler that he normally deals with doesn't stock the powder I am looking for, that is the end of it. He isn't willing to do any reasearch or make any further effort. So at that point I buy it on-line or on the phone myself.
I prefer to buy it though the dealer for a couple reasons. If he is already getting an order of powder, he doesn't charge me a haz mat fee since he would be paying it anyway. Second, I don't like to get packages sent to me labeled as haz mat. Third I am not home a whole lot and the UPS guy will just sit it out on the porch. I would be pretty bitter if I ordered a couple eight pound kegs of powder and they sat out in the rain for a day or two before I could get home. Actually now that most powder is coming in plastic jugs, I guess that wouldn't matter much.
I would have to say that I have a couple hundred pounds of powder right now. I would guess that I have over a dozen different powders. Probably 40-50k primers. But this is unusual, I bought a lot of powder and primers from a store going out of business. I got something like sixty five pounds of powder and maybe 20k primers for $200.

Yep .... category missing!!
I am very fortunate ... about 40 mile's drive away, I can get all my consumeables from a warehouse ... at trade prices .... amazin really. Prices are low enough so that even with my gas and time .. I still save .. not to mention being free of damned hazmat charges.
I usually buy powder in 4lb jugs but sometimes 8's ... primers are great price too. Damn lucky.

:uhoh: Couple of friends and I buy in bulk online. We usually buy a couple 8 pounders of our favorites apiece and at least 30 thousand primers at a time. Got to keep all three Dillons happy!:p

P95Carry - Where is that warehouse? I travel through southern PA a couple of times a year and would like to see if it is anywhere near my route.

Mal H ...... well, someone else asked me about that and so far, damned if I remember the exact address etc ........ but I can check it out if required .. needless to say ... I can find it!!
To get to it .... well the way I might approach (check this out on a map) .... from Johnstown, take R 219 North .. and head up towards Ebinsburg. Somewhat before that however you take an exit onto R22 West ... this takes you then under 219 on a four lane and after about 100 yds or so, when the concrete median ends, you take a left and cross the Eastbound lanes ... to enter a smallish rough roadway.
You then take first right and head on not very far (maybe only another 150 yds) about as far as you can go ... and the place is made up of two main buildings. The name is three initials ... all I can remember right now.
Let me know if that made any sense at all!

Got it, thanks. It's probably just off Feather Rd., shouldn't be too hard to find.

I had been buying my powder (pistol, rifle, shotgun, and Pyrodex) in one pound cans. I'm about to change that and start buying in 15 pound and larger kegs. Besides being cheaper, I don't have to be concerned with a buying frenzie when a politician makes a silly comment about gun powder or ammunition. Remember the Primer buying craze that cleared the shelves in 1994 triggered when a congressman said something about requiring a shelf life on primers? I like to be prepared (for that and similar senarios).

P95/Mal,
Spill the beans, dudes!
That's pretty close to where my parents live, about 90 miles.
If it's worth the savings, I'd be more than happy to pick up some powder.
I believe the town is Ebensberg.

Yeah, the gun show category is missing. Like Mike Irwin, that's where I buy. Usually 8 pounders. Ammo and components are pretty much my main reason for attending gun shows nowadays.

Same here, GUN Shows. I get my primers for 12.50 a 1000 for small pistol and $13.50 for large pistol, But many times I have found primers for $7.00 and up per 1000. I also get my powder there to, I just picked up a 4# keg for $9.00 a pound. Have paid as low as $7.00 a pound from 1 to 8 LBs. You just have to wait for the bargan buys.

Been buying 1# cans locally to sample different stuff. If I can settle in on only a few types, I will keg up before the Kali taxing crew get their hooks in us. They are making noises again about a per primer/bullet/cartridge tax.

I buy four, or eight, pound canisters from my local dealer. He's fair with me, so I spend my money in his shop to help keep him around.
