Steyr M9 comparison

I recently took my son to a range to try out different types of semi-automatic pistols including the Sig P226, Sig Pro, Sig P229, Glock 17, HK USP, Ruger P89, Walther P99 and 92FS in hopes of finding out which one to purchase for him as a gift. I'm fairly new to handguns, my son has way more experience. Anyways, we both liked the P226 the best out of the above, I also really liked the USP and Sig Pro. The P226 we tried had a very nice trigger and felt good in hand, was easy to use and the recoil was not bothersome at all. To me the Ruger had the softest shot and the Walther had the hardest and was the most surprising in terms of recoil. The Glock 17 was alright for me, but he doesn't like Glocks (not sure why). Unfortunately, the range did not have any Steyrs to try out.

The problem is there is only about $400 that can go towards this purchase, and from what I have heard over in GT was that CDNN will not sell handguns to folks in California, which if true would put the P226 out of range for us.

So, for those who have tried or owned any of the above guns, please
compare them with the Steyr M9. Also please relate the recoil.

Thanks.

cheers, js

The Steyr M9 feels about like the Glock 19 which is a smaller, though not tiny, version of the Glock 17 that you shot.

M9 has about as much kick as any plastic 9mm but the low bore axis makes it kind of straight back instead up flipping up.

M9 has an external safety vs. none for the Glock (Active safety for all you zealots)

M9 has these really neat love em or hate trapazoidal sights. You really have to see them to make your decision.

M9 is one of the most comfortable pistols I have held. The Walther P99 being more comfortable and the Glock being a lot less comfortable.

Other than that it is your basic reliable medium sized 9mm plastic pistol. Good deal at around $300.

This is actually a moot point for you there Joe, the Steyr pistols aren't on the California "approved" list so you can't have one anyway. :(
