Price check on something I know nothing about.

New poster in this subforum.
I have a quick question though.
What would you pay for something described as: Browning 7mm mod A bolt, Redfield 3-9 scope, Redfield mounts and deluxe sling. The lady at work is asking $525 sight unseen, I'm sure she'd let me look at it but she assures me it's tip-top, I think I know nuthin about rifles.
Could the good folks at THR help me out?
Edit: She also has a 92FS stainless with acc. (I know it's a handgun in the rifle forum, sorry) for $475 ... sounds like a killer deal to me, any thoughts?

I have exactly that, minus a different type of scope (mines Simmons) and I paid $469 at Wally World brand new.
I'd pass or ask for a better price, it is a real nice rifle. The punch is a little much for some because of the light weight, but it is a beautiful rifle.

IIRC, Redfield scopes are no longer made. That's a factor if it breaks. Otherwise, in my neck of the woods, I'd look at it like this.
$200 or so for the scope, rings and base.
That puts the price of the rifle at about $325, decent price (depending on condition).
Not a steal, but (IMHO) a solid buy. YMMV, depending on location. :)

So, that's one "erm, I'd get it and be happy with an OK deal, at least keep the glass" and one "but that's a bit pricey"
Any other opinions?

As a general rule, low-end scopes don't add much value (if any) to a used rifle. Sounds a bit pricey to me.....
I also wonder if you REALLY want your first rifle to be a 7mm Mag - it's a pretty hot round that can be a bit intimidating at first...

If it's a newly made Redfield scope, it an OK, but not great piece of glass. They currently make these somewhere in in Asia, comparable in quality to a Simmons.
If it's an older Redfield, it's better constructed, but built to an older standard as well. Redfields do not hold their value like a Leupold. $425 tops for the rifle.
