I have to ask the question, after a friend told me he keeps two .357 Magnums and a .380 in his nightstand!

First ..... I don't use the nightstand, per se ........ and second ... just the one gun - could be more of course!!.

When I retire, I take carry piece outa holster and it lays on floor almost under the bed... means that I have only to reach right arm down (would be less obvious than a move to nightstand) and pick it up ... it is always lying with grip to right and pointing down to foot of bed ..... VERY quick to pick up and all but instant ready therefore.

Anyone else do that? Always seems I am ''odd'' doin it this way!!:p

With small kids, none are in the night stand. Actually, our nightstands don't have drawers... :p

House gun is a S&W 686 loaded with 4 blue Glasers and 2 158 Gr LSWC rounds. Also my carry 1911 is ready with 9 rounds of 200 Gr Gold Dots and my P32 is ready with 8 rounds of Gold Dots. If the bad guy manages to take all of this, there is a Remington 870 with 5 shells of #7 1/2 shot with his name on them. ;)

I used to keep a belt fed M60 on a very sturdy nightstand I built myself. I have recently replaced it with a mint MG34, I feel more comfortable spitting out 900 rpm than the much slower M60. When my case of ammo runs dry I have as a backup several grenades.

Don't misunderstand me these weapons are not intended to be used against people. I have them because I am afraid of my dog.:uhoh:

man, the essential Sword of Damocles thread...Ive lightened up my life by not worrying about these hypothetical questions. yes FWIW Ive slept with a rifle, 1911s and a dog/knife while in a questionable situation. Now I just worry about getting in my sleep early and being up at 2-300hrs..better be ready.

A cocked & locked 1911 .45 on my side, a 3" Smith .32 mag on my wife's side, and my old 20 gauge quail gun loaded with #3 buck within easy reach. The kids are grown and gone long ago, so I'm OK with having loaded guns around at night.

I used to keep a 2-1/2" mod. 66 on the bedside table, but a short barrel .357 makes way too much muzzle flash for night work. Anyway, the handguns are just there in case I don't have time to grab the pumpgun. I don't ever want to have to say "I wish I had had a bigger gun that night." Nobody ever had too big a gun when push came to shove.

Way back in the summer of 1963 I got myself out of a couple of tight spots (once in Miami, once in AZ desert) by just bluffing it out with a little Czech P-27 (.32acp). (actually I wasn't bluffing, I was ready to shoot if I had to) That night in Miami just the threat of that little pistol was enough to back off 5 young would-be muggers armed with knives and rebar, but I was awfully lucky to get out of that one alive. The 2nd incident involved an attempted carjacking, actually a pickup-jacking, by 2 guys and 1 very attractive girl in AZ. (take a tip, don't ever stop for a cute hitchhiker on a desert road late at night) After that I began carrying a real gun, a 1917 Smith .45acp revolver, but I never had to draw it in SD.

I was carrying illegally as I bounced all around the U.S. back then before "shall issue" CCW was a reality. Oh well, nobody's perfect. I didn't get caught, and at least I'm still here instead of in an urn on the mantlepiece.

I don't keep a gun on my nightstand as I have small children that love to come into our bedroom while we are sleeping. I keep my pistol up high in my closet. I installed a Bianchi Tornado duty holster in my closet upside down next to the door. A quick push on the thumb release and it's ready to go. If one isn't familiar with that holster, they will not be getting it out. It has a somewhat hidden sliding lock that keeps the thumb release attached until the lock is pushed out of the way. I'll probably keep it this way for a few years yet.

The question should have been more clear I suppose, I've got one .357 snubby in the headboard, and 6 speedloaders. Wife's job is the phone..she has no desire to have a loaded handgun at the ready...

I think I need to make a bandolier for the speedloaders though, not enough pockets in my underoos ;-)

I'm surprised that there are those giving flack about this!!! It's not like you're asking "who's got a pistol mounted in the shower"!

I voted two, but it's actually one per side, and not exactly the nightstands. All my firearms are locked up tight in either the main safe, or one of the two single pistol safes SECURELY mounted in an out-of-the-way but completely reachable spot by the bed. There's also a 6v flashlight and spare mag for each...

I've seen the "Brinks" commercial too, but I ain't falling for it! We've got an alarm (no dog, we just had a baby), but that doesn't mean I don't take a couple of small extra steps to be prepared, if it ever does go off.

That whole "answer the phone honey... the Brinks guy is going to notify the police, so everything's OK now! whew!" thing drives me INSANE every time I see it! And the three girls home alone who run upstairs, close the door, stick a chair under the knob and say "it's gonna be OK"... Yeah, as long as the skinhead who smashed your window ran when the alarm went off! And the "broken glass" alarm is an EXTRA feature, and most house alarms don't have it! If the motion sensors aren't ON, then only if you OPEN the window will the alarm go off.

Well, once, for about a week, I slept cuddled up with a loaded 870. (Active bear country).:evil:

Now, with no kids, one each for me and the bride. The better neighborhoods are the ones that really greedy people go to to steal stuff, last time I checked. Rapists don't discriminate regarding wealth. What does the neighborhood have to do with certain threats?

I checked "three guns" but it is not as bad as it sounds.
I have my dedicated home defense gun (Beretta 92FS with night sights and 15+1 of 124gr +P Speer Gold Dot HPs) then I put my CCW in night stand (Kel-Tec P-32) and my wife has a Walther P-1 on her side if she needs it.
I also have a dog (Springer Spaniel) that likes to sleep on the bed and he barks like a Rottweiler when he hears something. I hate getting woken up like that but I guess it is better than NOT getting woken up if something really was happening.
