Well, here are some guns that I feel are at a decent price and provide a good all around value. They are within $100 on price so which would you prefer and why?

If you feel I missed a good buy, let me know.

By the way, I already own a CZ75 :)

I voted FEG cos i got one last year. Now, leaving aside a possible assumption, that metallurgy may not be up to true HP standard etc . I gotta say (not for first time!) that this gun compares extremely well with my ole and genuine HP.

I do not intend to ''punish'' this gun with the 1,000's of rounds my ole HP digested ... and so expect little problem. It feels the same, takes the same mags, and if anything, the trigger on this is even a tad sweeter than the ole HP.

Maybe I'm lucky but so far .. find this extremely good value for money ... and also switch to using it for carry sometimes, as it is less ''chunky'' than P95. I love it.:)

All of the guns you listed are excellent bargains, and I'd have a hard time picking one out. I voted for the Sistema...a gen-u-wine 1911A1 which can be had for around $300 in some places.

Steyr M series @ around $300. Not familiar with all of the choices so I didn't vote.

Of your listed choices, the CZ is the best deal.

Of your options, I voted Colt ;)

I'll have to go with the Witness.
I bought a .45 metal frame in Wonder finish for $337. I didn't expect much but was plesantly suprised at the range. No malfunctions in 700+ rounds (mostly reloads) and more accurate than my Glock G-22. Fit and finish is very good on mine.
A very good value.

Colt Sistema!
I'm very biased because I just got one for $300 from JDL Enterprises. First rate! Like new, very tight, and a good shooter. I couldn't be happier. And, it's 100% GI compatible. You can't beat that. I am so glad I didn't buy some new POS which isn't compatible with anything.

Love a good Sistema. I'd avoid the .40 -- sharp recoil and expensive. Stick with the .45 or 9mm, cheaper ammo, more mild recoil -- Beretta or H&K.:D

The Sistema is the only gun on the list with which I have personal experience. I bought one about a year and a half ago from JLD Enterprises. Some 2661 rounds later I can say it's a winner. If you can get one for $300 and like 1911s, go for it.

In general, the EAA Witnesses and the CZ75 derivatives are best in my book for new guns. Not sure what the Taurus PT99 goes for brand new these days but in my opinion, they may be in the running as well.

Best deal on 'not recent manufacture or brand new' would have to be the Bulgarian Maks currently all over the place. And police turn-in S&W pistols. I've seen them in the under-$300 category and I'm sure at that price, they're pretty decent. I just have never liked them too much.

My vote the Norinco ,they are a great platform to build a custom 1911.:)

Thanks for all the comments. I forgot about the XD and didn't list any Glocks because I don't know much about them and they don't appeal to me. I did have a Mak once but didn't really care for it. I found a good deal on a customized Sistema so went with that.

I have ~50 pistols or revolvers.

The Kel-Tec pistols are the only "can't live without" pistols.

I have lots of expensive pistols, but they are "pocket anchors".

You missed the Ruger P90 in .45 ACP and the P89 and P95 in 9mm.

These are "best buys"..... rugged and reliable.
Ruger has an excellent reputation for standing behind their products.

Best new current production pistol for the money?

Kel Tec P-11.

About $209.

But it depends on what you want to do with the pistol and what you mean by "best".

All the pistol's mentioned are good candidates; but I
voted for the NORINCO; as it does offer a good
base for a "Kustom .45"!

You must remember that when you buy a pistol NIB, that you expect it to work and if it doesn't, your expectation of reasonable professional support shouldn't be too musch to ask.

My CZ40B cost me $269 NIB(not including NICS, sales tax, etc.), is more accurate than I am capable of currently shooting it and the only time I've contacted CZ-USA I was treated very professionally and courteously.

Contrast that with my NIB Tanfoglio 10mm Compact Witness, $339.95(pre-tax,etc.) and it didn't function in any way reliably. Top that with the gruff, unprofessional and curt manner in which I was handled in several instances by EAA(Tanfoglio importer and servicing agent in the USA). Three trips back to EAA, a damaged pistols returned the last time, with an offer to "buy" me off when I had the gall to point out the damage to them.

No, the CZ40B may not have the adaptability/conversion capability of a Witness, but at least it works every time I pull the trigger and CZ-USA doesn't(at least in my experience and research) treat those that purchase their product like something they'd rather scrape off the bottom of their shoe.

Forgot to list the Steyr M9 or M40....for 340 bux they are a sweetheart deal for a decent tactical pistol.

Heh....I said "tactical".:D

A used Glock. The G17, G19, & G23 all make excellent used handgun purchases.;)

CZ40B !!!

Like the feel in my hands.
Fit & finish is very good.
Looks good.
Shoots well & reliable.

Bonus:
Found a local shop where the owner is a CZ fan and ordered my CZ40B for $275.00 plus tax.
He even went to pick the gun up @ the local distributer on a Monday (his closed day) and had it for me to pick up on Christmas Eve saving any transfer fees.
Great small local shop & plan giving as much future business as can afford.

Steve

P.S. Also like the fact that the CZ40 has it's own story/history of the venture between Colt & CZ behind it. :)

nvrquit - I'm a big fan of the CZ line myself, and have read about your problems concering EAA. I own a Witness that has been great for me so far, and hope I never have to go through the BS you did with EAA/Tanfoglio.

boogalou,

Truthfully, I can't say if I was caught in a "down-cycle" at EAA or if that's their normal operational regimen, all I know is that it wouldn't be and was never the way I've handled any customer in my employemnt history. That includes the ones that seemed to have lost touch with rational reasoning and those that excersized a very well developed knowledge of obscene language.

I'm glad that you and others have never experienced an unpleasant day with your Tanfoglio(never call it an EAA) Witness. I'll not use the "crab" technique of thinking that everyone else should feel mistreated or "lousy" simply because of what I've experienced. Just know that if you run into an "involved" issue with an EAA supported product, the outcome may not be that what one may expect.

Other than that, I personally do really like the design/fit of the Tan CZ clone Witness pistols. They offer a significant possible number of options in an affordable package... too bad the USA based support isn't up to the same level of possibilities. If it were, I believe the Tan market share in the US would be larger.

To all, shoot safe, shoot well!
