Hi all,

I've been toying with the idea of a new rifle for next season, I remember reading a blurb about the Tikka T3 in one of the magazines, but it doesn't say a whole lot..

Does anyone know where I can track down more info on this gun, or have any pro/con experiences they would like to share?

Thanks in advance.:cool:

Leo

I recall seeing somewhere that they will be on dealers shelves by the end of this month.

Just don't ask me where I saw it---I can't remember at all.

April delivery is correct.

Best thing to do is just order one from a dealer in your favorite caliber. Rifle is only available through distributors and cannot be sold dealer direct from Beretta. None better for the money and is the rifle to beat for 2003.

Thanks for the info guys.. I've read the blurb on Beretta's website, but it doesn't go into to much detail. I've got a couple months yet, I guess I'll just cruise down to the local dealer in a couple weeks and see if he as any details yet.

Thanks,
Leo

This is what I've found on the net so far;

http://www.berettausa.com/feature_products/index.html#t3tikka

I also just this second found this site;

http://www.tikka.fi/frontpage.html

but I haven't checked it out to see what kind of info it has about the T3 yet (doing that now :))

I'm sure the T3 will be a good rifle, but to reduce production cost they are only offering one action size (Long) for all calibers. Savage did the same for years with model 110.

The long action only is the primary reason I just ordered another Tikka Whitetail in the short action. Tikka's trying to save a few bucks by only producing one action length. Part of the benifits of the short cartridges, .308, .223, etc, is the ability to use a shorter action.

I guess the "long action only" scratches the gun off my list then. I guess I'll have to take a closer look at the other Tikka guns..

It'll be more for punching holes in paper than hunting likely. It'll also be my first bolt action. One thing that's always turned me off about them is the lack of a detachable magazine.

Anyone have any more info online for any of the Tikka series? Their website is pretty tough to get around and I'm not sure if they are talking about the US versions?

Trying to get the best rifle I can for the $$ if you know what I mean :D

Thanks,
Leo

One thing that's always turned me off about them is the lack of a detachable magazine.

Is that right? I had thought that Tikka's had detachable magazines.

I should have been more clear.. One thing that has always turned me off in general about bolt actions is the general lack of a detachable magazine..

I believe most of the Tikka's have a detachable magazine, which is one of the features that I'm looking for :D

If you really like the gun and you're only shooting paper tagets, I wouldn't let a long action stop me! I have one particular Browning that's a long action bolt gun that I can out shoot most all similar short actioned guns all day long. And, there isn't really a noticible difference in speed in bolting the next round, practice, if that's a concern, makes more difference than anything.

Just food for thought? ;)

Having owned one, Tikkas are IMHO the most gun you can get for the money if you want accuracy, an adjustable trigger and a smooth-actioned rifle.

However, the best money I spent was when I bought a Sako. All the benefits of the Tikka plus all metal construction, actions sized to the cartridge and better fit and finish. Nothing wrong with the Tikka but I think the extra $$$ for a Sako was well worth it.

Guess I'll have to take a road trip now that you all have me thinking.. Biggest trouble is none of the local dealers have any Tikka's or Sako's in stock.. Good excuse to spend a Saturday travelling around and looking at guns :D

The gun will be poking holes in paper all summer, and hopefully a nice whitetail in the fall ;)

Really I'm just looking for a quality, decently priced alternative to the rack of mod 70's at camp (with a detachable magazine, I'm hung up on that for some reason, lol) of course it's got to be a decent shooter for my summer paper slaying expeditions. I purchased a reloading setup and can't wait to start playing with loads. (to keep me busy in the warm non-hunting months!).

Thanks for the food for thought guys.
