Just got a deal on a Marine Defender that I couldn't pass up (already have an 870). It is pistol grip only. What is the best stock to mount on this shotgun--the stock Winnie or ????

Thanks,
David

I use the hogue stock. 1" shorter than the factory stock which makes it easier to hold for me.

Visit Knoxx Industries (http://www.knoxx.com) and take a look at the COPstock Folder and CompStock. They will take a lot of the bite out of shooting the 1300.

Get a standard stock, pistol-grip-only rears are useless.

The basic Winchester stock, the Choate Industries models, Speedfeed, or the Knoxx Industries Copstock (recoil reducing) are good.

IMHO the stock of the 1300 is akward and even uncomfortable. I have a folding stock from ATI and I like it very much, with the stock out its comfortable to hold at your side or use your bead/truglo sight (depending on when you purchased it). I wouldn't recommend using pistol grip only mainly because even if you have a stock/pistolgrip combo you can still hold the gun down at your side as if PGO with the advantage oh having the stock under your arm, etc. You might find the folding stock a bit "hollywood" but it acutally works well, at least for the moderate ammount of shooting I do. Also, I dont trap or skeet shoot or anything like that so if you plan on doing that sort of thing you probably shouldnt take my advice. :)

I like the Hogue Overmolded stocks. There is rubber molded over the stnthetic stock and the grip is very good. The 12 inch pull was previously called the youth model and is what I have on my Mossberg 500. The stock is shorter and is very convenient for close quarters work. The longer length is not too bad either. I think Cabelas or Midwayusa has them for about $40. The pistol grip is better than nothing, but I would not want to use one myself. A shotgun pattern at close range is small and should be aimed and not sprayed.
