Found one for $259, and was wondering. Now I did a board search, and found alot of info but needed some clarification from the congregation if I could.

Does this match up to the 'real' HP specs as far as parts compatibality?

Is $259 a good price? i've never ever seen one?

If I find info on how to clean up a 'real' HP, such as trigger pull, mag disconnect etc, does it translate?

thanks for any advice, comments...

I have a PJK-9HP and it is every bit a High Power.

This particular model will accept all original HP parts, unlike other models.

These guns were originally made for a Hungarian military contract that fell through so they are well made.

Grab it and get the Hogue finger groove grips, these guns are great shooters.

I'll add to Newton's mention here - indeed, for the money, I think these are excellent HP clones ... my oldest HP back in 80's (now gone :( ) ... handled and shot no better and also my FEG feels now every bit as good a shooter as my current BHP Practical.

My one reservation and - no hard data to back it up really - would be that I cannot see the metallurgy as being ''up there'' with a true Browning or FN ... and so I do not put 1000's of rounds thru my FEG as I would the BHP. So far with a few hundred it has been a delight - just not sure if longevity is going to be quite as good as ''genuine article.''

All in all - I think, a good value gun but I wouldn't over stretch the envelope. That's just me - and I do NOT regret getting mine, one bit.

The 9HP version is a rare sight around here, the few times I have seen the 9HP around here, the price tag was near $400. Good gun for $259, not for $400 though.

I had a FEG for awhile and sold it to buy an FN MKIII. Like you, I did quite a bit of research before I bought it. Although I see a lot of dealers at gun shows trying to get a bit more for them, your $259 for a new one seems to be about average for my neck of the woods. I took out the magazine safety on mine to improve the trigger. (That process, which I worried about doing, was actually quite easy.) Mine was reliable and reasonably accurate. No complaints. Except. It's not a real FN/Browning. It's a copy. I liked mine well enough to go ahead and sell it and get the FN. No complaints about the FEG once I fixed the trigger. (Didn't have to fix it on the FN, it was okay.) But the FN was a much higher quality gun. Better fit, finish, trigger, etc. I'm real bad to buy something cheap/good-enough and two months later getting what I really wanted in the first place. That's what happened with the FEG/FN purchases. Always costs me more in the end. My advice is to save up and get the real McCoy. Just my 2 cents worth. But if your heart's set on the FEG, it will get the job done and the price you quoted sounds fair.

I paid $200 for a used one. It has the worst trigger I've ever felt, but hopefully that can be fixed.

The FEG isn't a Browning but it isn't priced like one either.
They are good buys for general use.
Browning Hi-caps fit and feed just fine in these guns too.
I kept one around for several years as a testing platform for some above factory specification 9mm reloads.
I figured that if those reloads blew the FEG up they weren't going to be safe in my other, more expensive guns.
It was still going strong when I sold it and I now keep an old 459 Smith around for such "testing".

I have a FEG PJK9 (bottom of picture). At about 1500 rounds, the lug broke off the barrel as you can see in the picture!

Cost to replace and have the barrel fitted would have been more than I paid for the FEG.

The second pistol in the picture is an Arcus clone. It is IMO a better shooter than the FEG and has much better sights than the FEG too.

If you don't mind the blockyness of the Arcus, I would recomend it over the FEG

THe top pistol is my Wilson customized BHP and is by far the best of the three.

I don't know if I'd be too concerned about the quality of the steel. Steel is one thing that former com-bloc nations had plenty of. Most pieces I have seen (mostly rifles) have been of pretty good quality although fit and finish isn't quite on par with other western guns.

I think a FEG would make a fun project gun.
IMHO, it looks like Arcus was trying to get a little bit of a Sig look with the 98 and 94 models.

Forgot to add that mine cost $199 NIB with factory hi caps about 18 months ago.

I have about 2,500 rounds through it and it has never jammed, misfired, stovepiped, hiccuped, burped or otherwise malfunctioned in all that time even when very hot, very unlubed and absolutely filthy from a 300 round session.

I shot my CCW quals with it 4 months ago and shot a 3 inch group, suddenly everyone with the tricked out .45 compacts wanted to know what I was shooting (we need an "aww shucks tweren't nothin" emoticon).

I clearly remember the box saying that the mags held 15 rounds, but they actually hold 14 perfectly and have never "broken in" to take the extra one. This compared to the original's 13 round capacity.

I love the slimness of the design, and it makes me wonder why modern guns seem to be so much wider in the slide.

I really find it hard to say anything negative about this gun, now the Beretta 9000, that would be a different story :(
