Has anyone seen any truly lightweight rifles for .17 HM2 or .17HMR? I have only seen the cz model and the 24 inch(?) Marlin rifles.

You should ask the Mod to move this to rifles.

I haven't seen any, unless you count this as a really, really short 3.5-pound rifle. :)

I think Marlin will have a lighter semi-auto with 16 1/2" barrel for 2005 chambered in HM2. It will be listed on their website when they finish the update. I think it is the 7000 series.

No, the smallest rifles I've seen for the .17 rimfires are the .22 "parent" rifles.
OTOH, I have a really cool custom rifle for a .17 centerfire wildcat. Based on a Martini Cadet action. Its the size and weight of a BB gun (Red Ryder size--not adult pellet gun size) but shoots 1-2" groups at 200 yards.
So it CAN be done...
(and I just had to brag.)

I think we need a new rule...no bragging without pics. :neener:

You're gonna make me learn how to post pix, eh?
We'll, I've got a Red Ryder handy, so I could make a comparison pic. Have a digital camera...don't have a website with pix hosting service, though.
Mebbe I'd better read the FAQ...

How about a thompson contender with a 16" barrel in .17 HMR, and the rhynite shoulder stock, its as short as you can go legally and call it a rifle, Mine was sold as a pistol originally so the pistol grip can also be used and IIRC there is a 10" barrel availible but you cant use the shoulder stock with it as it then becomes an NFA weapon  .
short and light???? you could build a custom 10/22 in .17 HMR.

Ok, trying pix. The custom .17/.357mag below a K-31--a "normal" size rifle. The lil' custom job weighs about 5 lbs. Shoots a .357mag pistol brass necked to .17.
Below that, a 5-shot group at 200 yards. The first 3 shots, under the masking tape, were sighting in. After I saw how close they were, I shot the last 2, through the masking tape, trying for accuracy. Definitely "minute of Prairie Dog."
That's why .17's are popular with varmiters.

I like that little rifle Dave. I dream about a Dakota model 10, but am afraid I would leave it in the safe for fear of scratches. Maybe some day.

What do you consider "truly lightweight?" Volquartsen's Superlite models are less than 5 pounds.
The Stevens Favorite and Winchester 1885 single-shots have to be pretty light.
The Ruger 77/17s aren't really lightweights, but compared to the bull-barreled rifles they aren't bad. Just above 6 pounds I think.

Correction on my my earlier post. The rifle I was thinking of is the Marlin 717M2. Eighteen inch barrel and five pounds. Semiauto.
