Depends. Can it take high-cap mags?

Where in Arizona are you?

Yes, it can take hi-cap mags.

I'm in Phoenix. The gun is in the vicinity.

Boy, that's an ugly gun. I saw a few of those in the early 90s and thought it was pretty freaky even then. They make MAK-90's look good.

If you ever need parts, which is probably unlikely in reality, some will be difficult to find. Specifically, the trigger, stocks, trigger guard, and maybe a few others.

Why not search for a MAK-90 or similar?

I know that Norinco pre-bans in regular configuration AKs can command a high price, but I don't know about the "sporter." In Phoenix, you might shop around a bit. In places like Flagstaff, what you see is what they've got when it comes to used firearms and you might not see more used ones on the racks for months. If you already bought it, hey, enjoy it.

Norinco hunters should go for WAY less than that. You can get a Russian version of the same thing for about $100 less.

Does the Saiga take double stack AK mags?

uh, no. I just checked mine. It does take double-stack, but the catch is too small to use regular AK magazines. I think there are some outfits that will modify the gun to take High-Caps, but that's probably for somebody else to tell you where to go. Sorry, I didn't consider that.

I got a used Norinco Hunter about 4 years ago and was happy to pay $350 for it. Have done a great deal of research on it as you should. Alot of good info like it wasn't really made by Norinco but by polytech (386), They do of course take any AK or RPK magazines. Its based on the RPK rifle and therefore takes alot of AK parts. It looks like the the current russian Saiga but it was based on the Finnish "Sporter" with wood stocks. Accuracy is much better with it compared to my SKS and very much better than my AK (3"). Much more comfortable to shoot. There appears to be several different models with minor changes, mainly in how the scope was mounted. Most are Pre-ban, so that is a premium. Send me a private message if you know of any for sale in that price range. I have several friends interested in mind (its mine till I die). Check your clips, mine takes hi-capacity mags no problem.
