State Sen. Rosalind Kurita, D-Clarksville, expects it may be two weeks before the Senate's Finance Committee will review her bill to eliminate the state sales taxes charged to people who buy gun safes.
Kurita introduced the bill to promote gun safety without restricting the rights of responsible gun owners, she said.
A tax subcommittee discussed the legislation Tuesday morning, then voted to send it to the Finance Committee without recommendation, Kurita said.
"They were concerned about a reduction in the sales tax collections," Kurita said. "What I now am going to do is to show this will be a small amount of money in the state budget.
