eatmorepork January 15, 2005, 11:52 PM Hello everyone...pretty long lurker, first time poster :) I live south of Columbus, NE and work as an environmental director for a livestock producer
The 99th session of the Nebraska Legislature is introducing new bills and as some of you know, LB454 was introduced regarding allowing concealled carry. LB454 (http://www.unicam.state.ne.us/scripts/InfoRon.asp). The bill has something like 24 senators in favor of it, but of course my favorite Senator the great Ernie Chambers is against it. With his skills  he will likely stall with his filibustering. 33 senators are needed to override his garbage. :banghead:
Just hope it has a half a chance of passing. BTW, I own a little Ruger 22 SA and a Remington 870...I know small potatoes, but I can always add to it :D
GREAT Forum here folks!

Chut1st January 16, 2005, 12:45 AM Welcome and good luck this time, eatmorepork.
IIRC, last time CC passed the Unicameral, it was vetoed by the governor. Is that right? I was in NE for about 4 years before returning to TN 6 years ago.
Moondoggie January 16, 2005, 12:50 AM I live in Nebraska (Lord help me!).
I must call my newly elected state senator and mention that I voted for him, I want CCW passed, and I'm paying attention to how he votes.
Good old Ernie Chambers...gotta love him. The uninitiated should google him...you'd never believe we've got someone like him in a red state.
El Tejon January 16, 2005, 05:41 PM Welcome to THR. :)
Best wishes to our friends in Nebraska! Turn up the heat and make them see the light.
steveno January 16, 2005, 06:01 PM we have a better chance of winning the lottery than the people of Omaha voting Ernie Chambers out. until that happens CCW in Nebraska won't happen.
eatmorepork January 16, 2005, 10:57 PM Well hopefully Sen. Buetler's bill to rescind term limits (something the Nebraska voters approved of :cuss: :banghead: ) will gain no legs and Sen Chambers will be back to his barbershop in 2006 or 2009 (I'm not sure). :neener:
Moondoggie January 16, 2005, 11:18 PM That would be the people of North Omaha voting Ernie Chambers out, right? Never gonna happen.
Despite my distaste for his (mis)demeanor and tactics, if you consider the concept that we are supposed to have a representative form of government Mr. Chambers does represent his constituancy very accurately. In the Unicameral it's him against the world, and I give him at least some respect for that.
But I sure wish he'd just shut up and go away!!!
eatmorepork January 17, 2005, 07:40 AM I need to do more research, but term limits will get Chambers out...North Omaha voters don't matter since the majority of all Nebraska voters approved term limits. I need to look at LR3CA and LR14CA.
OmahaNE February 25, 2005, 01:33 PM The bill is still in committee. There is a public hearing for it March 17th (unofficial date). We expect it get out of committee and to be debated on the floor. Senator Chambers has promised to filibuster (try to block the bill) it, which means that we'll need to get an extra amount of votes to "break" his filibuster. We’ll need 33 votes. So far, we have close to that many, but EVERY VOTE COUNTS.
Hope that answers your question.
PS. To anyone like-minded person reading this-- please, if this issue means anything at all to you, please call your senator or write them a handwritten letter.

This small action will take 10 minutes of your life & it is important. A stamp, envelope, and paper costs what... a dollar? Many people have “free” in-state long distance on our cell phones. You probably won’t talk to the senator, but the staff does keep track of the calls & it is important to the senators to know what their constituents want.

Standing Wolf February 25, 2005, 10:32 PM Nebraska apparently doesn't have any use for my vacation dollars. Oklahoma and Texas do.
grampster February 26, 2005, 08:28 PM Went through Nebrasky a couple times going to and from the Jim Bridger Wilderness. Saw the tree both times, comin' and goin'. :D :D
Welcome to THR.
outofbattery February 26, 2005, 10:53 PM I spent 72 hours on a field trip to lovely Offutt AFB in mid January . As a Southerner , I had no preparation as to what winter in that location would be like . You are made of far hardier stock than I am , everything being low and nothing but shades of gray just about drove me nuts .
OmahaNE March 1, 2005, 06:09 PM Yes, well we only live here for the beef.
jfh March 1, 2005, 06:17 PM and send some up my way. Yours is good stuff.
OK, you can all laugh now.
