They peaked a few months ago in the post 911 rush reaching about 224,000. For about three months, the number of active licenses slumped a bit with a low of 221,700 On Jan 1. The numbers for February 1 are just out and reflect 222,800 active licenses. It looks like the upward trend is back on again.

Another interesting figure is that DPS, upon request, has also sent around a quarter of a million application packets out to people who have not done anything with them.

Time, money and motivation. Getting all three together at once can be tough for some folks.

I sorta suspect the numbers will go up sharply again after George pulls the trigger and/or when the psychos hit us again at home. :(

That being the "motivation", I'm guessing more folks will find the time and money. Then whine to high heaven when DPS does not churn out all of the licenses in 60 days ...

Well said, Greybeard.

The application requires people arrange to spend a day getting training, get photos and fingerprints taken, and get a cashier's check. IOW, it's not "convenient" so it's likely to be put off.

If they perceive a threat, the speed of light is too slow, so naturally it's somebody else's fault.

And that's true!

The more "aware" citizens become, the more aware they are that RKBA is their natural right so whether or not they carry is none of the state's business.

The ONLY thing my CHL entitles me to do is avoid hassle from exercising my RKBA and pay more "taxes" (by a different name).
