Thanks Ruger, I will probably buy so good things I want to hear. Love my 357 Security Six by the way.

Great gun, I just got a Smith 13, which is the blued version.
It has a 3"bbl and it is the best balanced weapon I have ever handled.
You will be pleased.

A very handy .357, accurate, reliable, good trigger easily improved if you want, & proven.
For stainless revolvers, I prefer a beadblast type finish (the factory satin finish on my M65LS is fine), beveled cylinder front, and beveled & polished trigger. A good example of this was done by Dave Berryhill on the "686+ tuneup" thread of the S&W revolvers section of www.pistolsmith.com. Dave also did a few more things on that gun.

Tech,
I bought an older Model 65 recently. I just got it back from Smith&Wesson. I had the factory install a new 3 inch heavy barrel, and do some other work.
I am working up a new load for it, and have ordered new Hogue grips. Soon, it goes out to Birdsong for the olive drab/black finish that Smith provides on their Stealth 629.
I have two Model 19's, and love them. I think I will like this Model 65 even more.

Thank you all for taking the time to post. The Great Karnak sees a 65 in my future.

If I could only have one handgun, my 4" M65 would be it.

My friend has a three inch and loves it--
I have a Nickel 13 and am also very pleased with handling, heft, and performance--
I use the Bianchi Lightning grips which cover the hammer making it a quasi Mod 38 bodyguard--

The 3" M65 and its carbon steel sibling, the 3" M13, are the best CCW revolvers ever made, IMHO.

Dang lendringser, that is a purdy gun. :D
My Smith 13 has a bead blasted blued finish, that is brand new on it and grips that look alot like yours.
The grips on mine came off of my Smith 696.
Very nice weapon. :D

A bit utilitarian for some taste but if your looking for a serious defense gun not something to impress some local blowhards, very hard to beat.
I carried my 3" 65 for several years and while my other guns are out getting some custom work I'm happily carrying it again for awhile :)
JFYI, It likely does not "need" a thing but I had chambers chamfered and a trigger job at S/W. Once home I put on some Ahrends grips from Brownells (not too pricey but nice, don't cause your jacket to ride up) enhanced the front site with orange nail polish and touched up the rear notch with "Site black".
With all that done I can't really say I own a better carry handgun. It will never be sold for sure :D

3" M65-3 is amazingly comfortable to carry all day IWB in an Alessi Talon + holster. It's also accurate enough to pop the head off a squirrel that was tearing the roof off a bird feeder 75' from the front door of my shop with a single shot. It simply disappears under a lightweight "T" shirt after installing a set of inexpensive Hogue Bantam Grips, and although it isn't quite as soft to shoot with full bore .357's as with the Pachmyers that were on it when I got it, it hides much better & still ain't bad to shoot.

I have a 65 4" that is P&R and a blued cousin Model 13 3".
I really like these guns with a 3" barrel it makes a nice CCW, and the 4" is a great car gun
I am thinking about selling the 4" to fund another project Email if interested.

Are the 3" RB S&W M-13's & 65's still in production? I didn't think they were. Here's another thought if looking in the used market - a Ruger Speed Six. No longer in production, but they were a direct competetor to the M-13/65 - and built stronger. The M-13/65's were basically modified M-10 .38 Spl M&P's. Very nice guns mind you, but like S&W's .38 J frames that were originally designed for .32's, the M-13/65's are basically a medium frame .38 Spl frame design.
The Speed Six's were a variant of the Ruger "Six" series DA revolvers - designed for the .357 Mag cartridge. The Speed Six's were fixed sight, generally in a round but frame with barrel lengths from 2.75 to 6" as I recall.
Just an option!!!!

I'm a big fan of my 4" police trade-in. I replaced the wood grips with a rubber Pachmayr (or similar) grip that makes shooting it a real pleasure. I need to get some work done on it since the extractor backs out every so often, and I'd like to get the action checked out. Maybe it will go back to the factory, I just haven't decided.

I have 4 M13's and 2 M65's. The problem being, I'm way short of M65's.;) They're all that, and a bag of chips.
