So, I finally acquired an M1 Carbine for my collection. No, it's not a mint-condition, authentic rifle, issued to the US troops in 1942; but it's A-OK in my book. It's the IAI re-manufactured model.

My question is, how do you take it apart? Do you just start unscrewing parts, or does the thing "field-strip?"

Thanks for the replies...

The bbl band is where you start. May have to loosen pinch bolt first. Push in the little pimple thing and slide band forward until it clears wood. Action will tip up out of the stock. It has a hook breech. After that you can remove recoil spring/guide, slide, and bolt. Trigger guard is held in by pin, IIRC.

Here's an online manual on the carbine:

I think Fulton Armory also has one, plus a LOT of carbine info.

BTW, I'm not even sure if it is in fact a IAI product. It's not stamped IAI anywhere, but it is stamped "US CARBINE CAL 30 ML" on the front of the receiver, and "HOUSTON, TX USA" on the rear of the receiver. Is this the markings for the IAI rifle, or another?

Thanks for the online manual link!

Be at rest, it's an IAI carbine, better than 90% of the GI carbines out there. Your luv it.

IAI has had some QC problems and a lot of people would dispute that they are better than ANY GI carbine, unless the latter is in very bad condition.

I found an online manual with photos at:

It helped me get my IAI apart, and back together again when I cleaned all the factory goo out of it. Hope this helps...
