Wood on Gun Contact

I have just built a rack for my handguns. It will sit in my safe, plus I don't have a lot of access to a good shop, so it is just unfinished plywood.
Will the wood damage the finish on my guns? I have a mixture of blued, plastic and polycoat.

go to Ace or Home Depot and pick up some self adhesive felt pads/strips to stick on the contact points on the stand.

Felt is good. Cork or rubber can work too. Basickly anything elastic and non-abrasive. The course fibers in plywood will make noticable marks on the finishes with repeated use.

Rubber generally isn't good: it will damage bluing over a period of time.

so my advice is based on experience. Felt pad is a great idea as some of
the previous posters have mentioned. The other thing you need to watch
out for is moisture content of the wood, glue exposure (remember ply is glued)
, and pine sapp. Is it external grade or internal? external is usually treated.
my advice is to take your shelf and give it a thick coat of wood sealer,
and then polyurethane. Handguns are expensive ,and any of the above
conditions can harm a guns finish. Also the sealing and urethaning
is cheap and easy. :D

Back in High School Shop class the #2 most popular project was making gun rack. (#1 was making a billy club on the lathe - sure, we called it a chair leg but we only made one)
We always put green pool table felt anywhere a gun would touch. This was to protect the gun from the wood and to protect the wood from the gun oil.
