Just bought a 457 So far I like the gun. Taking awhile to get use to the 3 3/4 inch barrel but I,m working on it. Anyone else own one and what do you think of it

Bought my 457 in 1997 when I was commanding 2 drug task forces. My primary was a 645 so I bought the 457 as a backup and to carry off duty. After I left the drug world I still carried it off duty and when not in uniform until 1999 when we went to Glock 23s. Great gun. Under appreciated.

I agree great gun very much unappreciated!!
Accurate and reliable, and should be a good carry gun if desired. Gun shoots 7 rounds plus one in the chamger as I recall.
I sold mine to a friend 6 years ago and he still has it and enjoys it.

Excellent gun. Mine is very accurate. Never had a malfunction with it. I changed out the grips some time ago with Hogue rubber grips for the 4516. Big improvement in ergonomics (for me anyway). About the only other thing I did to it was replace the plastic sights with night sights. I kind of wish I'd left them alone, the S&W certified armorer (a police armorer) who did it for me told me it was a real pain to do (he didn't do a very neat job either - kind of annoyed me).

Great carry gun for the money.
I like the features, and it's lightweight, powerful, has a lifetime warranty. Had a few in my CCW classes and they've all been very reliable.
I think this pistol, along with the 910, 410, and 908 are great deals.

I too have an early 2 tone 457. Very dependable and reasonably accurate with it's short sight radius. The only change I have made to mine is to install a "stippled" straight back grip on it. Works for me :)
For backup mags I use full size 8 rounders, they work fine.

I bought one when they first came out in the 90s, but once the Glock 30 arrived, the S&W just didn't offer any advantages for me.
My 457 never had any failures, and I think they are one of the few S&W autos worth owning.

I bought one used in a pawn shop about 2months ago. $325 out the door Like new, 2 mags. It has been flawless and quite accurate. It is as good as any single stack DA/SA out there, for a lot less money than most, with an excellent warranty. It gets a "Best Buy" sticker from me. Its my kitchen shelf, taking the dog out carry gun. I can't see ever selling it.

I just picked one up myself yesterday. It looks nice next to my 1006 but sure carries more easily!
So it will take 4506/4516 eight-rounders? Does anyone make a sleeve to fill the gap? I don't suppose anyone has a picture of what they look like in place...

Have had one for several years and its one of the few that I've not sold or traded off. In addition to flawlessly handling all sorts of factory loads, it functions just as well with my reloaded 225 gr flat nose bullets..loaded very mild just for paper plinking. Never a problem with feeding, or slide lockback.
A real winner.

Count me as another satisfied 457 owner. I also replaced the factory grips with Hogue rubber -- much better IMO.
