In this movie the sniper tells the guy in the phone booth that police won't ID his bullet because it will fragment, but wouldn't the police just pick up the pieces and glue them together?

depends on if he is using some of those compressed metal slugs. :)
Maximum energy transference upon impact...how you going to get ahold of all those granules of metal?
Of course, if he is using a standard jacketed bullet, then perhaps its a nosler or hornady varmint slug. If that is the case, then you better have CSI:New York AND Miami on the case. ;)
In short, it would be difficult, but not impossible, to find frags usable for a ballistics match....depends on how good the forensics team is.

I'd think that even if all of the pieces were found, there would be some deformation amongst the fragments therefore making it nearly impossible to put back together. Of course, I'm not a ballistics expert, nor do I play one on CSI.

They wouldn't need to put it together. If there is even one nice piece of jacket left, with a good rifling impression, that /might/ be enough to match to the rifling in a suspected gun.

That's why Ice bullets are better. :neener:

As many times as the shooter worked the bolt on that rifle for effect they could just identify from the gigantic pile of ammo on the floor. Heck they might even find the shooter trying to work his way loose from it. :D

Wasn't the shooter using some sort of .30cal magnum hunting rifle? I think they would be able to tell the difference between that and a handgun wound anyway.

Yeah, I think it was something like that. It was also suppressed :uhoh: :scrutiny: , like you would silence a "magnum " rifle :barf: . You would have to download to the point of pistol power for the bullet to not break the 1,000 fps or so mark that creates a sonic boom. Movies are such B.S., I hated that stupid film.

" It was also suppressed"
that was my biggest complaint with the movie. I think he was shooting an 30-06, but you'd have to load that thing WAY down to supress it... it just didn't make any sense to me...
I think the movie is good for the most part, but whoever wrote it had a poor understanding of firearms...

I think it is the best movie ever that will take place primarily in a phone booth, I wasn't into firearms so much when watched it so I never realized those weapons mistakes.

Where do you find a phone booth now days.
The last two I have seen one was in a collection in someones front yard and the other was a London phone box here at Nellis AFB that was a gift from the Brits.
Finding a phone booth nowdays would drive SuperMan nuts.

Thx all, and good points. Especially about finding a phone booth! I wanted to find a phone book to look up a store's address, those days are over!

"Where do you find a phone booth now days."
As I recall, at the beginning of the movie they say that this was the last phone booth in Manhattan, or something to that effect. Phone booths certainly are vanishing institutions.
I enjoyed the movie. I was getting my brakes worked on one Saturday afternoon and had a few carless hours to kill, so I walked across the street to the theater. It seems like I enjoy movies more when I see them at the Saturday matinee. Don't know why that is.

Worst movie I have ever seen...gotta love the horribly done laser dot and the stupid plot. Woulda made it easier if he walked out of the damn booth lol
Only funny part is when the hookers tell the cops he has a "glock" lol
That is the most realistic thing I remember in the movie lol
