What do you mean?

Just by cutting off most of the CTAC holster that would be below the triggerguard?

I don't have either holster so I can't give specifics. But.... You would need to take the half of the c-tac that is touching the body and replace it with a piece of quality leather. The hardware that holds both of the holsters looks similar so that is good.

If you want to try, you need to get a pretty large piece of nice cured leather. I don't know where from. Maybe a holster you don't ever use, but it would have to be big. The leather on the answer looks flat on the web site, so it would probably have to be flat. If you have a pancake sytle holster for the gun you want to holster, the inside piece of that might work, as it is shaped for the gun.

Then put holes in the appropriate places and attach it to the outside half of the c-tac. I don't know how securely it would hold the gun. Does the c-tac need both halves to hold the pistol. It is quite possible.

Honestly, I would just buy the answer. You won't regret it. I bought the texas heritage, and Rob's service is top notch.

I modded my Ctac slide for comfort using closed-cell foam and black plastic-works well, and is light years ahead of stock comfort (1911 thumb safety eats into your side). http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=90545

But....the tinkerer in me can't leave well enough alone. So, Mark 2 is a plastic "plate" on the entire back (plastic), with neoprene or closed-cell foam on the skin side...a similar element of the excellent Answer, but I'm going to try and cover the entire grip area as well for giggles. Prolly neoprene, should be slightly softer and is a a better natural sweat barrier, backed to a thin Kydex.

I suspect that I'll order an Answer when I have more disposable income for the leather aspect alone....The Answer an excellent and innovative holster design that uses the best of what leather and kydex can do. But not until I've tinkered enough to get rid of the itch to mod the Ctac.

drf, have you checked with Tucker? IIRC he makes a version of the Answer holster with the adjustable cant clips like the CTAC has?

Crucible,

You think you could post the pictures here? When I try to click on them over at the 1911 forum it says I have to register.

DigMe-you mean you're not a member of the 1911 forum ya heathen!? :p

Here ya go:

Mine is the slide version so I can use with my Officer's or my government; the extension below the Kydex is my addition to provide some protection against when I carry my government, which goes about 1.5 inches below the Kydex. There are several layers of the foam which have stood up very well (no evidence of wear at all in fact evn through a Virginia summer).

No big deal, but works well and was inexpensive.

Got motivated to make the Crucible Mark 2 (Mod A) © this morning; attached are a couple first shots (please excuse the poor photography):

There are two layers of closed cell foam (very comfy) that sandwich a thin peice of black plastic for enough regidity, but to remain flexible at the same time. The holster and the pad is held together using industrial velcro thoughout the length of the Kydex, which allows for slight adjustability too.

That combo seems to work well: I wear it at teh 2;30-3:00 position and the body pad is conforming to my skin curves well, virtually no noticeable thickness is added, but most of all, it feels great (no more having to wear an undershirt to protect my side from being sanded via the grips, and as it's winter, no more cold pistol against my skin....steel does have it's bad points :p ).

I'll wear this a bit so see if there's a Mark III © (or Mark II Mod B ©), but it's good to have found something that protects against the grip area that to my knowledge isn't sold with any holster out there.
