I have found a NIB S&W 19 unsure of dash #, with 2 1/2 barrel. The gun is beautiful and the lettering on the gun almost looks white. Just wondering how much you guys think this might be worth before I make an offer? It is a non-pinned barrel so it is a fairly new model.

It's an old trick to rub the rollmarks of a blued firearm with a crayon and then rub off the excess leaving the lettering white. It really makes it stand out and look cool.


Personally, I used a silver Sharpie™ marker on my blued guns and a dark blue one on my stainless guns. You have to rub harder to remove the excess but it holds up better to oil and it's a LOT cheaper than those silver/gold kits.

There were also commercial letter fillers designed for this purpose. Accitone normaly takes it out if you want to.

I'm guessing Like NIB conditionvs unfired per the lettering. I'd place value in the $400 +/- $25 range depending on options and inclusion of factory tools etc.

I would like more info before I take a swag at a price. Like the age of the gun (the dash # would help, or the first part of the serial #). Also, if it truly is NIB, is this a private transaction or an FFL? Noting that you are in Illinois, and subject to somewhat different requirements than some of us, this might tend to drive the price up. And I am assuming that porivate sales are ok there given IL law, which I'm not familiar with.

You can check the S&W forum, though, as those guys might be a better resource.

OTOH, good 95% plus Model 19's can go from just under $300 to $400 or more, depending on the local market and real condition, plus the luck factor. I would expect a NIB gun to be at the higher end of the market in any location, but that's a no-brainer. Especially from an FFL.

I just called the dealer, it is a 19-7 with no box or acc. He claims it has never been fired and that he purchased it off a gentleman that sold him a large collection. The gun did look new when I seen it in the display case. No noticeable drag line on the cylinder. I wish more people would save the boxes and acc. when they buy guns. It really adds to the resale later on if they decide to sell. Anyway thanks for all the help. By the way he is asking 368.00 plus tax.

is confined to the 19-4 I just bought for $275. My first revolver, and it has changed my thinking about wheelguns. Very smooth DA and light, crisp SA. Also very accurate. I'd say buy it.
