Well, one of my new years resolutions was to try to shoot some gun every weekend from here on out. This weekend, I took my Heritage Arms (Ruger Single Six knockoff) out to shoot. I probably have not shot this in over a year.
I had a few FTF with 22LR ammo from CCI. The primers were being hit but lightly.
When I got back to the house, I checked the firing pin and it looked OK, but the hammer acted "sluggish", like it was rubbing somewhere.
(Here comes the stupid part...) :banghead:
I started to dissasemble the pistol to look at the hammer better. As I am looking for a rub spot on the hammer, I accidentally pull the hammer and the cylinder "yoke" out. The yoke had some surface rust on it, so I cleaned it off and oiled it. I placed the yoke back in, oiled the remaining interior and the hammer and put it back together.
Now, the hammer will only click one time instead of the 4 times it used to. When you pull the hammer fully back and pull the trigger, the hammer only drops halfway and stops. If you push on the back of it, it will go the rest of the way.
I believe that the hammer teeth that engage the trigger bar are misaligned. Does anyone have a diagram of how the teeth engage the trigger and if the hammer should be cocked or down when you reassemble.
Thanks in advance.
(P.S.- I really don't want to have to take it to a gunsmith-I only paid $120 for it 5 years ago.)
