The J-Lock is a safety with an integral lock. The key is a pin that has a "J" shape to it.

Sorry, Sulaco, can't answer your question :o

I've heard rumors they were going to discontinue it, but I still see it on new guns.

Just talked to Remington. The J Lock IS being discontinued, but will still appear on some arms until stocks are exhausted.

Almost certainly this is one design change the collectors will not drive up prices on, and also most certainly Remington will furnish old style safeties as parts replacements. I doubt they'll be free.

I bought a 700 last summer that had it and an 870 this fall that had it.

Thanks guys and Dave. I also called Remington and they said all '05 models would no longer use it. Makes me happy. I bought a Mossberg though. I got a better deal. ;)
