Fiber optic bullet seating stems

Ok, I know I'm dreaming . . . .but I'd love someone to invent a bullet seating stem with a fiber optic insert so that I could "illuminate" the powder charge. I like to visually check each powder charge before placing the bullet on the case and sometimes I find myself having to work hard to see if there's powder in the case or not. (pistol cartridges). What I'd like is something like the borelight flashlights that I've got where you can you shine light into a bore to see how it looks.

I guess I'll have to break out the welder and see if I can fabricate some sort of mini-maglite holder that will give me the same functionality. :)

Have a good one,
Dave

I put a desk light behind station 3 on my Dillon Sq. Deal presses and angle it so the light is shining on the case. I don't have any trouble seeing the powder.

Thanks! I might have to try that. I put up a flourescent on the bottom of the shelf behind the loader but it doesn't seem to give enough 'direct' light for me to easily see the powder. If I stare at it I can see it pretty well but not with a quick glance.

they're making a lot of special use consumer flashlights now with fiber optics on the end. check out some computer stores for the lights you clip on to laptops to illuminate the keyboard. check some of the preferred living catalogues for the reading lights (i.e. books). i'd be surprised if your average hardware store didn't have something like that too

I have a gooseneck style floor lamp placed behind my press. I have now installed a flourescent "twist tube" bulb in the lamp and it shines a lot of light on the charging and seating stations on my press.

I load the old fashioned way.

Manual powder dispensers, scale and runout gauge at eye level. Loading blocks at bench level. I can look into every case before seating.

It just occured to me that it would be easy to attach one of those small LED's to the bottom of the tool head and it would have an almost straight shot into the case. Thanks for the idea.

Another option would be to use glow in the dark powder. Maybe exposing it to radiation would allow me to sit back and just look for the glow coming from the chared case. :D Well, maybe not.
