Well, the title pretty much says it all. I recently bought an LBV and a buttpack and was wondering what people typically put in there.

Well, this varies from person to person, but here goes.
Snacks, cleaning kit, first aid, poncho w/liner (rolled up and run through the straps on top or clipped to the bottom), sweater, socks, anything else you need for an extended stay in the field that you do not need to get to immediately but want with you when you don't have your pack on.
Really depends on what you are doing at the moment. Most folks do not wear a full size pack going into combat, but sometimes you need to carry extra stuff. A buttpack, or a small backpack (usually called an "assault" pack) is pretty common.
Sometimes you move stuff around, depending on your activity, and amount of supplies remaining. Remember to keep your load balanced, or you will feel it later!
Hope this is helpful.

I use web gear for USAR stuff. In my buttpack I carry rain gear, extra socks, roll of toliet paper, sun screen, bandaids, extra gloves, snacks and batteries for my flashlight. I have two other pouches on my gear one carries knee pads and canister mask with canisters. The other pouch carries a FOG manual, flashlight, gloves, and pencil.

My buttpack for the army typically holds the following when we go to the field:
1 MRE, broken down
1 Cleaning kit
2 Pairs of socks
1 Brown T-shirt
1 bottle of Advil stuffed with extra cotton to make silent
1 Package of Moleskin
1 roll of electrical tape
2 chemlights, one colored the other IR.
Plus there is usually odd stuff in there that I put in like spare batteries for my NOD's, aimpoint, and PAC4. When I was enlisted it would hold a SAW tool and the 40mm brush for the M203. Heck, I think that I still have a SAW tool in there.
I will usually store my PVS 14's in there because I don't like it on my pistol belt.
It's pretty amazing when you are in the field for a long time how much you can fit in there...there is a reason us 11B's call it our Butt Ruck.

TP TP TP. You never know when you have to go. And put it in a zip lock bag, nothing worse then soggy toilet paper when it comes time to use it.

Mr. Mysterious added a very practial point when he mentioned MRE's. Always break them down before you stow them. That big package is a pain in the ass to pack.
