I'm going to look at this gun tonight. He said he'd take $750 for everything and one mag. What do you guys think? one thing I really like is since it's all Bushmaster I'll have the warranty and only have to deal with one company.

I have a Bushmaster M4, with perhaps 500 rounds through it. It comes with the following...
M4A3 upper
M4 14.5" barrel with Phantom flash hider
Flip up rear sight
First Samco M44 handguards (4 rails)
First Samco vertical grip
6-position CAR stock
A knock off reflex sight (can't remember the manufacturer)
Original carbine handguards
Original Bushmaster fixed telestock w/buffer
Complete set of furniture painted snow-camo (an amateur job)

This lower was originally purchased as a v-match, and then later swapped to an M4. The upper was also swapped to an A3, as I don't care for the A2's. This was all done by a local smith, as I don't have the tools to do it myself. All pieces were purchased from Bushmaster, or a Bushy FFL.

Oh I also wanted to mention I can get a new Bushmaster M4A3 from a local shop for $899, but the wait would be about 2 months.

Yes sir, you may take my response as a yes, the rifle is worth it.
I would try to shoot it before I bought it to make sure the gunsmith did the build correctly.
If it is guaranteed to function, it will be a good buy.

The only thing I wasn't sure about is swapping of the upper and lower that he had done. Is this gun the same as an M4A3 CLONE ( :neener: ) from Bushmaster, minus all the extras he has?

I'm assuming this is semi, but you might make sure that Phanton FS is welded on. Some folks don't realize that it's perfectly legal to purchase an upper with a less than 16" overall length, but not legal to attach it to, or even have in the same house, a lower receiver. That's a Short Barrel Rifle, and an NFA item.

Is a weld the only legal way to permanently attach a flash hider?

As far as I know. I know they don't consider a roll pin as permanent.
Bushmasters site says it has to be both pinned and welded, but I don't know for sure. I'd run as fast as I could of it's not welded in place, unless the builder has a Form 1 for it, then you can purchase on a form 4 like any other NFA item if your state allows it. That's serious felony territory otherwise.

I've seen the phrase "single metallurgical unit" to describe the attachment of the FS to a short barrel. Once again I have no idea what that means, but it sounds pretty clear that a pin or a screw on with loctite isn't gonna cut it.
