Well, after much searching and asking around, I think I may finally have found a source for a nice wood stock for my Savage 116.
Richards Microfit Gunstocks (http://www.rifle-stocks.com/)

Has anybody had any dealings with this company? I am looking at the Sportster style in semi-fancy grade A with a 1" pad installed. Cost before shipping looks like about $130. Does that sound reasonable?

I know I will have to finish inletting the stock and finish it, but I have some woodworking experience, so it shouldn't be too much trouble. There just doesn't seem to be much in the way of stocks for the normal barrels out there....

Any and all input is appreciated,
GinSlinger

I started looking for a nice wood target stock for a heavy barrel Savage and found this post. They have some beautiful stocks at that site. Did you get one? It would be nice to know how much work the additional 4% inleting entails. And what about the bedding? Savages have the pillar bedding so I'm not sure how clamping it into wood would work.

I would sure like to find a nice wood stock for the Savage. If I can, my finance approval department told me she would endorse the purchase of another Savage rifle. My current Savage has the SSS Kevlar stock and it is sweet. But the allure of wood is calling me...

Thanks

I bought 2 of Charles Richards long action Savage stocks a few months ago. His shop is about 8 miles from my house. It took about 6 weeks from time of order until receipt. They are 95% finished as you still have to do minor inleting, bedding and exterior sanding & finish. I am happy, but I also enjoy doing finish work on rifles.

That's the model I was looking at (but in short action). Wow!

Did you glass bed it? How does it shoot?

Thanks!
