1-800-839-5276 used to bring one to CAPITOL SWITCHBOARD. The ladies, for the most part, sometimes a gentleman one got would pass your call to any congressional or senate office you wished to speak with.

As of the other day, when one dialed that TOLL FREE number, the caller was told, by a recorded message, that the toll free number had been disconnected. No information was available.

Might it be that the peace and quite of the plantation verandah, where sit the quality folk, our elected things, and their staffs, were overly bothered by comment, messages or questions from those uppity commoners, who provide the luxury that the above mentioned quality folk reside in? One wonders.

Being sunday there is little that can be done, but I appreciate your notice.

I definately will look into it.

If they simply cut the service, then that is a brash move, illustrating disdain.

If I wanted people to stop calling, I would have automated the service so that it takes 10 minutes to listen to the menus and pick an option. It would only be acceptable to act as brashly as pulling the plug if there was absolutely no fear of backlash.

If the service wan't simply temporarily disabled, I would happily provide you with the tools to create a petition. Not a resident, so I don't think I could sign, but I would like to do my bit to prevent erosion.

Could you just google your representative's phone number, and call them directly?

Did you try the regular phone number (202) 224-2131?

It's hard to say why the toll-free number is gone; maybe a problem with it or somebody decided it was too costly to keep running. When I did a Google search on the "Capitol Switchboard", I got a number of hits and they all showed the above number and no reference at all to a toll-free number. :scrutiny:
