Well, I have an opportunity to trade for a Zeiss 44mm 3.5-10 and would like to hear opinions vs Leupold in either their 40mm or 50mm VX III.

Thanks!

Got the VXIII 3.5-10x40 and it is plenty of scope. Very clear. Matter of fact I would not waste the money on the Zeiss.

The 50mm objective might be a bit better in low light.

Both are spectacular scopes I really don't think you are gaining anything and may in fact be loosing a tiny bit of brightness due to the smaller obj. Zeiss makes spectacular scopes but so does Leupold so given this case, stick with the Leup. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Stick with the Leupold. If you can't tell a difference now, you'll be able to tell one when it breaks. Leupold has the gold standard in warrantees and customer service.

Granted I have never owned one, but I would think surely Zeiss has a lifetime warantee as well. Does it not? I would think those two scopes to be very, very similar.

Warantees are on paper. Customer service is different. The two companies have transferrable, lifetime warrantees. I'm not aware of a company that has customer service rivalling that of Leupold.

Well that's true. Thankfully, I have never had to send in any of my Leupolds to test their service, and I have one that is mounted on quite a cannon and it is holding up just fine.

And, even if it's good, we certainly don't want to make it any better.
