Opening remarks:

Economy
Estrada
Iraq

In that order.

Then questions from the media which will focus on Iraq with maybe a brief mention of the economy and nary a whisper about Estrada.

I was thinking something more along the lines of...
He steps up to the podium, gives a brief wave to his fans, pulls OBL's head out of a Nordstroms shopping bag and nonchalantly tosses it in Hillery's lap as he begins his speech...

Now that's what I'm talkin about! :D

Or, maybe Eric Estrada could ride in on his cycle w/ OBL bound and gagged sittin on the back.....?

Or a banjo pickin kid sittin on a porch down by the river... oh, um, nevermind.

How about, "Our administration supports the current assault weapons ban......NOT!!!!!!!!!"

Wishful thinkin'.

Starting off with Iraq, so this is the "winds of war" blowing through the East Room.

I'm getting prepared for stupid questions from the media now.

The questions have been pretty good so far, and I notice with great pleasure that Helen Thomas does not even seem to be there!

All the press are nicely dressed, and except for that tall skinny CNN dweeb (David somebody), all are standing up to propound their questions.

Ari Fleisher should get such respect!

There was no news in that conference. Why call it? True, seeing Helen Thomas snubbed is worth it, but why a snap conference?

1. To distract the newsies while something big but sensitive goes on elssewhere e.g. Pakistan

2. It was planned to announce capture of OBL but the capture fell through and the Pres had to do some tap dancing.

Stand by for heavy rolls while the ship is coming about!

There was news in that news conference. The president said that the US doesn't need the permission of other nations to go to war. That's the clearest signal he's given so far that we're going, UN or no UN. The conference was an ultimatum to the UN, France and Germany: we're going and, if you object, you're irrelevant.

Monkeyleg,

And it was news, too. Was getting tired of the whole game of "Mother May I?" that we were playing with the UN.

I didn't like the whole idea of going to war with Iraq. I think it was a stupid idea.

But I'm glad that Bush has reminded the UN that we don't need their permission. And I'm glad to see the US keeping its promises. After listening to our leaders reapeating threat after threat after threat, it is good to see them carrying it out.

Monkeyleg quote "The president said that the US doesn't need the permission of other nations to go to war."

Blackhawk quote "Monkeyleg nailed it perfectly"

Pax quote "And it was news, too. Was getting tired of the whole game of "Mother May I?" that we were playing with the UN."

As long as you guys are on duty, I'll just go have a couple beers with dinner. :D

But Pax's: "I didn't like the whole idea of going to war with Iraq. I think it was a stupid idea." makes me sigh deeply.

At some point, Pax, we have to suck it up and charge together. Don't we?
Thoughts?

Hello, I only got to view a small portion last evening and I have a question for those that saw it.
In the short segment I watched I noted an absence of the American Flags that normally bracket the President in the television broadcasts!!??
I did see what appeared to be a Menorah of candles at each of his shoulders on the rear wall!
What's up with that?
Has President Bush changed religions now?
Shouldn't the ACLU be screaming from the building tops, isn't the Menorah a religous symbol?
If the President had two Catholic sized crosses at either shoulder the media would surely be in a frenzy!

I have a feeling that this will be a very busy weekend...

The other news that came out of this news conference, and Colin Powell's statements today before the UN, is that--when this is all over--there will be a reshuffling of alliegances.

Bush's statement about "showing their cards."

Powell made clear references to the aftermath of NATO and the UN when this is all over.

If you want a Mercedes or Audi or BMW, buy it now. If you like French wine, but it now while it's cheap.

Turkey's stock market collapsed by something like 20% in two days following their parliamentary vote. They know that their protection comes from us, and their more astute leaders know that we will cut them loose if they don't give us the staging areas.

With the exception of Britain, the entire "old" Europe could be left to defend itself and pay for that defense.

Tears. :neener:
