It does not have a traditional frame. It does, however, have a wide plastic plate with a long flat thin (~1 1/4" wide) aluminum plate inserted down its middle to provide support to the shape of the pack and distribute the load. It is located in a seperate velcroed compartment (zipper enclosed) just behind the padding for your back and is removable.

Also note that the BFM, at least the revision I have, is not entirely water proof or resistant as there are 3 large (1/4-3/8" dia) holes at the bottom of the pack (metal grommetted) for water drainage. Good for military ops but not so good for sensitive school/work paperwork and electronics.

And if your camelbak bladder is leaking it will leak through to your back first.

I believe it uses the same "frame" as the RAID and AIII packs, also made by Eagle.
