It looks like my wife will be delivering our new shooter into the world on or about the 1st of October :D

This is our first child, and we are pretty excited. She is only 6 weeks along, so we don't know yet whether it is a boy or a girl, but I am a proud dad either way! Time to go get one of those little bitty bolt action .22s. I think they are called a bumblebee or something like that? Anyway, I just wanted to share my joy.

They're called "Crickets" (the .22's, not the baby! :D ). Congratulations!

Yeah, crickets...thanks Preacherman. I saw some in a gun show a while back and thought they were kind of cute, especially now that I have a reason to get one!

Boy, how time changes a person! About 5 years ago, I wasn't sure I wanted kids at all, but now I am so excited I can't believe it.

Congrats!

Preacherman ID'd the .22

The kids are referred to as Carpet Ticks, Rug Rats, Curtain Pullers, Trash Toddlers...etc - don't worry, the little one will clearly define what name one is to use under what situations. :D

I have already figured that "urchin" will be an appropriate dubbing :)

No offense to anyone here named Mortimer!!

If its a boy name him Sue and buy him a .458 win mag, that will make him tough :neener:

Small .22's are Crickets? I thought they were Chipmunks???

Maybe there's more than one?

Anyway, congratulations! L'Chaim!

Oh, yeah, favorite term for kiddoes--"tricycle motors."

Congrats, now just go hide in the reloading room for the next 7 1/2 months. And remember, they grow up really fast. In 25-30 years they will be out the door and on their own. LOL

You gotta get a copy of The Old Man And The Boy by Ruark.

It is mandatory...really! You gotta read it now, You and the Wifey are supposed to read it aloud to each other...so the little one in the womb can get all the good life lessons and such real early . Gives you practice for the when the kid arrives. Then buy the sequal.

Yep - I have read the book to a number of expectant mom's - read the book when the kid finally arrived...wrote their names in the book, with a nice note from me. I wasn' t the daddy - but I am an adopted uncle to a bunch of kids.

NOT just for boys - the girls have always enjoyed it as well.

Gotta start a Library for the new arrival too you know... ;)

Duckslayer and Duck hunt,

Congratulations to you both. My wife is also "with child" ... or is it "with children" since there are 2 in there :D ? We're expecting them between mid May and June. My wife has already decided that "Winnie" & "Chester" (temporary names of course) will not have a nursery decorated in Mossy Oak. Bummer.

My thought was to get them each a nice birthday present, like a Ruger Red-Label 20 gauge Shotgun. Ok, a very nice birthday present. I was brought back to reality when we started shopping for baby furniture, a double stroller, 2 car seats, etc... The revised plan is a Ruger Bearcat revolver. Of course, I would have to try them out a little bit, you know, to make sure they work right. ;)

Good luck to you both.

Templehall, while you're shopping you might consider matching sets of this from JC Penney -- the tank pillow has sound effects, too! We've already got it on our list!

Yes, having my two daughters by my 21st birthday was a real life changer. Not to mention getting married by 18!! Getting along with your wife is one thing. Dealing with her emotions all day long while she's pregnant is another!! Just remember @ 3am when she wants Taco-Bell and a Slurpee from 7-eleven don't complain. I does no good. And if you don't get out of bed to get it, she will!!

Thanks for all the suggestions and well wishes! I also wish you Duck Hunt and Templehall the best...Templehall...wow, I'm scared for ya buddy. Having one is crazy enough, but two at a time :what:

SM, I'll get that book you suggest and read it.

I've got to get that tank pillow. It's from Penney's you say?

Everything is going great so far. My one disappointment, however, is that my wife won't be able to shoot with me for a while. We had one session planned with our neighbors very early on (~6 weeks). The idea was that she would sit on the porch of the gun club clubhouse, while we shot. Some very scary bleeding, however, turned that outing into bedrest. Now I just really don't want her around the noise and the dust, to be on the extra safe side. My wife's Christmas present this year was a Ladysmith 3913. I didn't think ahead and realize it would be many months before she could enjoy it.

Duckslayer. Congratulations! Your world is about to change dramatically and most of it will be for the better!

The only thing that is more fun is doing the same thing again with your grandkids. :)

Right on and congratulations. Maybe you could order an AR lower from superior arms, I understand they do special serial numbers, like your new shooters birthdate. :)

DM,

Getting up at 0 dark thirty isn't a problem except now I don't get much sleep before then! I shouldn't complain, as she does sleep for about 3 hours at a time, so it is not that bad. Thank you all for the well-wishes. She will have a pink Crickett long before she can hold it!!!
