I just received an email from my friend who is visiting Epcot in Orlando, Florida.

He says that he observed a LEO (armed and in full uniform with a patrol vehicle) by the main visitor entrance of Epcot.

Also, he saw a Disney vehicle marked "K-9 Unit -- Security" on the highway leading to Epcot.

I have been to Epcot many times over the years, and I have never seen any police working there nor a Disney K-9 unit.:uhoh:

I know they now check visitor's bags, etc., but this appears to be a new level of security.

Has anyone else seen these apparent security upgrades?

Thanks for your opinions...

Disney K-9? So, Goofy or Pluto has a part-time gig now?

Have never encountered these new hassle, er, security upgrades. The question remains: why go to such an awful place to begin with?

El Tejon, if you've never been there you need to try it. Try to go when it's not too crowded and it's the best vacation you'll ever take. Take one of the five day package deals that includes meals.

Those folks have reinvented the word service and the food is excellent anywhere you eat. Never saw an employee with a frown and they always had time to help you.

If you take one of the long packages, you can visit each of the parks at leisure and don't have to rush. They have restaurants with cuisine from most of the major countries and it is great food.

I know that during our last "orange alert" amusement parks, bridges, national monuments and the like raised their levels of security...I guess even Mickey has been affected.

My wife works for Walt Disney World, do we go often (we get in free).
I have seen the K9 on property but not inside the park gates.
Disney security and county police patrol the property, it is a huge piece of real estate. Bags are now searched at all entry points at all parks. Mostly the upgraded securty is low-key. Stu

Actually, the only good food I found was in the Intl. section of EPCOT. Each country has it's own restaurant serving it's native cuisine. These are run and staffed by natives of that country.

EPCOT has a fair smattering of stuff that is interesting to adults, particularly those who are technology and science minded.

We went there the past summer. Funny that they were checking fanny packs, camera cases and diaper bags, but the stroller and its contents were ignored.

El Tejon: bring kids, you'll understand.

It isn't increased security. It's increased FEELING of security, for the folks who feel comforted by seeing a cop and/or a dog.
