Ruger Mk series questions

I want to buy a Ruger Mk series pistol. I'm trying to decide what model to get. Would I gain much in accuracy buy going to the 'competition' model? I don't plan on mounting optics. BTW, how are the iron sights on a stock pistol? Would a bull barrel help very much in regular shooting, or just rapid fire? I've pretty much narrowed it down to either a competition or KMK-512c. Or, should I just skip all of these fancy features and go for a stock, blued model? Thanx, opinions appreciated.

I don't think you will gain much in accuracy, but the Competition model has a recessed muzzle which is kind of nice. Might protect it more if dropped or knocked against something. Also it comes with the nicer walnut target grips. You don't have to mount optics on it, but you have the option to do it if you want to. If you find a good deal on any MK II, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

I own a Comptetion Target model and the other I have experience w/ is a bull barreled model. Both are very accurate & reliable although I haven't been able to compare them to the standard models. ;) They are reasonably priced so getting the one you want should't be that difficult.

I have both. You won't notice a difference in the accuracy unless you mount a scope and shoot high dollar ammo. For the buck a box stuff that I put through mine, there's no difference. I took the target stocks off of my competition model. I hated them. Truth is that these days, I shoot the polymer frame gun a lot more than the comp model just because it's lighter.

I like the original configuration, but I decided to get the stainless.
KMK512, I think.
My wife and daughters love the gun.
It is a ton of fun to shoot, and very accurate from 25 yards, or less.

I suspect you'll be very pleased, no matter which model you get.

I have a Mk 1 standard barrel and sights which looks and shoots as good as the day I brought it home in the early 70s..

As far as the stock sights, they're kind of crummy. They seem to disappear unless the lighting isn't perfect.

I just installed some Williams Fire Sights on my 22/45, looking forward to trying them out tomorrow.

Now that you've bought one you may find this helpful.

They are a ton of fun to shoot but a bear to take apart and clean.

Taking is down is the easy part.. putting it together is another story if you don't remember the point down then point up trick..
