A guy showed me an ugly shotgun today that I could probably get cheap if I asked.I've never shot one so I didn't try. It's a High Standard semi-auto,it only chambers 2 3/4,and did I mention it's ugly;due to a crappy spray paint job.Anyone tried one of these? If they're at least decent,I thought about getting it for a beater gun.

They generally shoot okay -- at least by my limited experience--
I assume the paintjob was by a duck-ninja for camo??
If so , my son had a lot of luck getting that kinda junk off with Gunscrubber and elbow greese--
Could be an okay beater--

I'd only buy it if it was one of those bullpup semi autos they made. those were uber cool.
assuming it works, 40-60 dollars ain't bad.

$60 isn't a lot to gamble, but the few I've seen have not been great shotguns. The feeding system limits mag capacity to 2 shots, and the grapevine says they're ammo sensitive.
I had a 20 gauge one of these more or less overnight.Bought as part of an estate liquidation along with a 50's Bear Recurve, arrows and associated gear.
In your shoes, I'd pick it up as a project gun, clean it up and see how it goes...
Andrew, the HS bullpups were cranky and unreliable with lousy ergonomics. Looked cool, but that was it...
