February 4, 2005, 11:08 AM
Bwana John, fantastic B&W of your grand-dad. May I file it with my other pre-WWII photos?
No problem, his name is Arthur Shumway, a career Navy man. He was stationed on a Yangtze River Patrol Boat, keeping China safe for Standard Oil, Jesus Crist, and Robert Dollar in the late 20's, and early 30's. He was my idol growing up, and gave me my first 3 guns (.22 @ 10, M-1917 .30-06 @ 12, & 12 ga autoloader @ 14)
He was a avid photographer, I have 1000's of pics from Panama, China, WW2, ect. Im trying to figure out how to preserve them.
February 4, 2005, 11:28 AM
Unfortunately, it isn't mine :(
People get a laugh out of this one, too (didn't plan on shooting machine guns w/flak jackets when I picked my clothers for the day  )
The camera was a Minolta Autocord with a self timer.
The car was my first NEW car. Had to order it from the factory and wait 3 months to get it.
V-8, Four barrel carb, 3 speed column shift, special gray paint, white rag top, black wall tires.
Valiant, don’t remember the year but the barracudas came out that year.
The PYTHON I bought new ($150.00) 6” barrel, hand loads.
Now the rest of the story.
The whistle pig was feeding at 200 yards when I took my first shot, went high about a foot.
He started running and my second shot was about a foot low.
Just like it said in the book when he got to the hole he stopped, stood up to see what was going on.
The third shot got him in the shoulder.
I believe you eat what you kill (killed a crow once, tasted like Eagle) so I started skinning.
It was the fall of the year and that old boar looked great, thick white fat, red meat , I was getting hungry.
Got home put him in the old pressure cooker with some carrots, potatoes, onions, garlic, salt and pepper.
It was about an hour later when the smell hit the house. No one told me about the glands you HAVE to remove.
End of a long story, the pressure cooker is buried in the back yard to this day with the lid ON.
P95 - The muzzle flash shot is AWESOME !! :D that a .44? looks like it.
February 5, 2005, 06:02 PM
how many shots does it take before the glass is too dirty to see through?
February 5, 2005, 06:03 PM
that a .44? looks like it Nope - that was my ''Raging Lunatic'' in .454 Casull .... interestingly, this ammo is the Win 250 grain - very whimpy load when compared with the Hornady 300 grain hot load - that does kick butt!
Nowadays I shoot the .454 much more thru my SRH.
I have mentioned before, in case anyone wants this pic as wallpaper etc (and yeah - I am proud of it!) ... I have a high res bigger version .... HERE (http://www.bedford.net/design/shoot/jb_shoot/454_flash_hires.jpg) - it's 330k and 1494 x 1059 pix. Grap a copy if you wish whilst it's still on that server.
February 5, 2005, 07:16 PM
Nope - that was my ''Raging Lunatic'' in .454 Casull
Even Better :D
February 5, 2005, 09:31 PM
Sheepdip, that picture is incredible.
February 5, 2005, 10:00 PM
Sheepdip, that picture is incredible.
I agree. Details please. Where were you? Cool car!
Jeep - that first pic of yours ... I am awful tempted to add a speech bubble ... looks kinda like you are yellin.. ''Yeehaw"!!!
Naw, that's my Animal Mother (from Full Metal Jacket) impression!
Every time I get to shoot that gun I'm grinning from ear to ear for a week!
February 6, 2005, 09:53 PM
I'm on the left of this pic, next to me is Bill Reynolds, some of you may know him, he has 14 natl. records in sb prone.
and here's my gun:
and me getting in position to shoot it (sorry about the quality, it was taken behind glass from a distance):
February 6, 2005, 10:06 PM
VAR - can't see your pics - seems like those URL's won't hot link.
February 6, 2005, 10:27 PM
I added the links P95Carry; I don't know why you couldn't see it on the board. I can see them fine; hopefully the links will work though.
February 6, 2005, 10:31 PM
Thx for the change but - I'd already checked to see what your links looked like - had em in my email notification too .... the third one for example . comes up as http://127.0.0.1:1041/clear.cgi? in my address bar after trying.
I wonder - are you cookied as a subscriber to those sites ... might explain why you can access/see the pics. I have had this prob before from some hot links.
February 6, 2005, 10:38 PM
I've now uploaded them as attachments, P95Carry.
February 6, 2005, 10:43 PM
Great! Thx for taking the trouble! :)
February 6, 2005, 11:19 PM
Me, an el-cheepo 870 Express, Chapman pirogue, and a limit of ducks in an undisclosed midwestern marsh. :D
Couple of 'em.
First is me and a GEW Mauser action .270. When I found it it was a real stray dog, horrible finish on the stock military trigger etc. I refinished the stock and glass beded the action, installed a Timney trigger. Don't have it anymore, sold it for a fairly tidy profit.
Second is me & my Kimber. Yeah, yeah, fingers on the trigger.
February 7, 2005, 05:19 PM
...and you're shooting with the wrong hand, too.
That is why I try to stick with the lefty friendly platforms.
I'd also like to learn to shoot right handed. It would be fun to be able to go either way.
February 7, 2005, 06:38 PM
twas more like 0 degrees. with a wind chill of like -15.
and for those that want to see more than a red X....
and aint you gonna post the pic of me and my colt? the camera had a wide enough angle lens, right?
February 7, 2005, 06:50 PM
Was kinda waiting for permission. In case you were still keeping a low profile after that incident in '86 with the Romanian hit team.
February 7, 2005, 06:56 PM
Is that guy down the end using some sorta chrono set up?
Looks plenty cold!!
February 7, 2005, 06:57 PM
if either of us werent frozen in the head we mighta taken pics of the targets to show off our 733t 5k1775.
you had those wickedly slow double taps going on. :D
February 7, 2005, 07:37 PM
The cold was slowing the powder's burn rate. I thought I told you that then. :D
Yep, guy at the end was slowly working up loads. <bang> look through scope, check chrony, scribble, scribble, scribble, load, rinse, repeat.

A 2005 Hog with 1982 Smith 29-2.
February 7, 2005, 11:25 PM
mec .... nice job!!!! That bullet looks like my long time fave - Lyman 250 grain Keith SWC ... great bullet. Powder? Load?
February 8, 2005, 12:24 AM
Its an RCBS 245kt from Dry Creek bullets. He uses a 92-6-2 mix and it comes out at 262 grains. I had been using 10 unique to spare this and another 29-2 but when I tried the newer, cleaner burning stuff, it jumped the velocities from mid to high 1100s to mid 1200s and the extreme spread got a lot bigger. I dropped back to 9 grains and didn't clock from the long barrel. I put a couple across the screens from my 4" mountain gun at just over 1,000.
February 8, 2005, 12:05 PM
Thx mec - well pretty similar bullet and for sure ... very efficient. Goes to show, considering hog hide - how potentially under estimated these bullets can be.
February 8, 2005, 02:18 PM
February 8, 2005, 02:42 PM
that picture reminds me of an old media standby " He had a VERITABLE! ARSENAL! in the trunk of his car!" One look in the back of your truck would make Eric Severhead take a dump in his drawers.
I recall that one media defined "Veritable Arsenal" amounted to a 38 revolver and half a box of ctgs.
February 8, 2005, 02:57 PM
February 8, 2005, 02:59 PM
Its ironic that I dont have any pictures of myself with any of my guns.
So I had to borrow one with me and Thumpers new Bushy while attending the Waco Gunstock shoot.
Sheesh - lying down on the job again Larry .... :D :neener:

Not a favorite, but a pretty good one:
February 8, 2005, 09:13 PM
Me at my desk at home. I'm pretty sure there's a gun in there somewhere.
February 8, 2005, 10:18 PM
Bowmore eh ... ooops, nearly missed the gun! Is that the Single Six .. can't remember whether you got blued or SS.
February 8, 2005, 10:28 PM
Where's the tobacco? :D
February 8, 2005, 10:47 PM
Couldn't find me with a gun. Here is Dad and I being ding-bats! Not only is my Dad carrying a silly balloon but there is a Seecamp in his front pocket so technically there is a gun in the picture. :D
February 8, 2005, 11:02 PM
One of the few pictures in exsitence of me with a firearm. My apologies in advance, I don't take good pictures.

Not a bad pic, Xen. Just needs a little color adjustment. ;)
February 9, 2005, 12:13 AM
Is that just a bit more than mischief I detect in those eyes ?
Me thinks so.
That's a great picture of you and the colors fine.
Picture by Oleg. The gun was a Rock Island 1911. The pic isn't my favorite because of the gun in it, but rather, for the message.
February 9, 2005, 07:26 AM
Here (http://champaigncounty.tripod.com/id25.html) is a picture of a buddy of mine shooting my Serbu BFG-50. :)

February 10, 2005, 08:10 PM
NHSoldier, you might not want to post that photo in public, given this:
January 27, 2005 - THE US Defence Department has been asked to investigate a website being used by American soldiers to post grisly pictures of Iraqi war dead.
The site (http://www.undermars.com/), which has been operating for more than a year, describes itself as “an online archive of soldiers’ photos”.
Dozens of pictures of decapitated and limbless bodies are featured on the site with tasteless captions, purportedly sent in by soldiers.
Captions include “plastic surgery needed”, “road kill” and “I said dead”.

February 11, 2005, 09:50 AM
Not my favorite but most of my pics have been posted here before. Got to get some new ones this season.
There are PH neutral storage boxes you can buy to store the pictures in. The store that sells them may have PH neutral acrylic slip covers to put them in. Keep them out of light and in a moderate climate (general rule of thumb, if it's comfortable for you, it's comfortable for the picture). Never put them in albums with cardboard/paper backing that the PH factor is unknown. Never use those self-adhesive albums (if they're still around) because the chemicals can contribute to fading. If you must mount them in an album, use those old fashion corners.
BTW, what ship(s) did your Grandfather serve on?
Did he ever mention about going "Asiatic?" to your father?
February 11, 2005, 10:12 PM
Tlhelmer originally said:Hey Cliff, She has a cute smile and she is into guns!
So very true. She's also a hell of a shot, and her and her husband are two of the nicest people I've ever met.
Her husband and I..

Me and my Glock 19, just taken a few minutes ago.
Its been modified just a little bit though. :neener:
Modified??? I'll say!! :p Not sure even if I am seeing what you intended! Like - B/W, near line art! Hard to tell what it is!
Try a full RGB JPG instead!
February 13, 2005, 12:59 AM
Its a picture of me holding my G19 in my left hand across my chest. You can see the outline of my shirt (white), but I dont know why the wall behind me was included in the white.
Im not too excited about posting a clear picture of me, especially my face, since if the wrong person did happen to know who I was, I wouldnt want to come home to find all my guns missing!
February 13, 2005, 04:53 AM
ok so I'm not technically "holding" a gun...

Me shooting a Tokarev, with my Service Six hanging off me, and my buddy John trying to coax his hakim into extracting properly. Tokarev isn't mine.
Me shooting a .36 caliber cap and ball something or other, again with my Service Six hanging off me, this time sporting the new Hogue grips.
And me shooting a Mauser made in 1905.

This pic is not near as cool as most of the other ones posted here, but I'm trying out my new .22 revolver.
10 Ring Tao, something about your screen name and the overall composition of the pic (cigar, Glock (18?), sunglasses, etc.) has inspired me to do a PS job of a movie poster, to be posted when I'm done... :D

RevDisk, hard at work. :D
If I recall correctly, I hadn't slept in slightly over two days when they took this photo. Yay for sleep deprivation and automatic weapons.

I don't have any pics of my shooting...but here's a pic of my son, then 5 years old and my father-in-law. This was his first time shooting. He is now 9 years old and hounds me every day to go shooting. LOL

July 27, 2005, 12:39 AM
Finally have it with me. :D Here ya go (sorry it's so big):
The girl in the picture is something a friend drew back in Senior Trig in high school, with a few Photoshop refinements done after the original pencil drawing. Fun to try to imagine what sorta movie you'd get when you put Kevin Spacey (et al) in a Tarentino movie. With Oleg directing the photography. :scrutiny: The other actors are just ones I picked at random, save for Tom Sizemore, who I think looks a lot like 10-Ring Tao. Couldn't think of a good tagline, so I just threw a "forum favorite" on there. :o Music by John Williams and Metallica. :uhoh:
Now, all we need is a script, funding, actors, investors, equipment, spending cash, time, and money. :D

Thats awesome Dio! My naysayers are going to be griping about my ego really getting out of control. :neener:
Great work, I'll certainly never complain about being part of an anime-esque visual production. If this movie ever comes to fruition, count me in for sure!
Any chance of getting it in a huge, desktop wallpaper version?
July 27, 2005, 01:37 AM
Any chance of getting it in a huge, desktop wallpaper version?
If you like... :uhoh: ;)
However, the above work was formatted to be a poster. I can create a wallpaper that has the same effect, but the composition will be slightly different. Plus, it'll be on the order of 1600x1200, so I'll have to thumbnail+link it or e-mail it directly to you. I'm going to try to integrate other members from THR onto it as well, using pictures from this thread. You know, to try and maintain relevance to the topic. ;) :p
Should be done some time tomorrow evening.
July 27, 2005, 01:57 AM
You do great work, Dionysusigma. Will we be seeing more future "conceptional art"?
10 Ring Tao
July 27, 2005, 02:23 AM
I can create a wallpaper that has the same effect, but the composition will be slightly different.
I'm currently running 1152x864.
What would be great is to get everything from the big red 10-ring tao down, cut off, so its just the art of the top half with Buy ammo, use up, repeat at the bottom.
I could do it myself, but the resolution would be better if the original .psd was used to make it. Especially when blowing it up to a width of 1152 from 648.
July 27, 2005, 09:23 AM
How'd I manage to miss this thread the first time around? It's great to put faces to names.
Me w/my most recent "favorite" - custom M14 built by West Texas Ordnance. What a hoot!
July 27, 2005, 12:14 PM
RevDisk--I guess so... another one is in the works as we speak. :)
The main problem I see with modifying the existing picture is that even when using PS to up-scale a picture (especially a JPEG, not sure about TIFF or others), the resolution is still pretty bad unless you go bit-by-bit and re-work the entire layer by hand. I've done it before, but it stretched the time requirement from half an hour to about a day. Shortcuts like gauss-blurring entire sections to smooth it out rarely work well, and I've had to resort to using the line tool and pencil on 1-pixel sizes most of the time.
Also, FWIW, I'm using Photoshop 5.0LE, and no after-market filters or plugins.
July 27, 2005, 01:09 PM
Here's me oh so many years ago, at a fougasse demo for infantry soldiers at Ft. Ord, CA.
John Farnam and Me. Trust me, between us there are 6-8 guns in there somewhere
July 27, 2005, 08:38 PM
My apologies for these images being so large. I have them archived on Photobucket, which does not have a means of reducing them once posted, and I lack alternate means of hosting at this present time.
First off, there's me posing with my recently refinished (all hand-done, by me) Yugo SKS. Alas, it's "California-legal". Note the AR-15 style rear sights, which are a vast improvement over the regular rear sight.
Then we have the business end of said SKS...
Followed by me looking rather scary with my buddy's AR-15 (I have a Kel-Tec SU-16B that is similarly equipped, but evidently "real" ARs are not permitted here... :fire: )
And finally, there's Kalashnikitty. My friend Julie (who adores the above pictures) has this as her AIM icon. Wonderful girl, we'll see where we end up one of these days. :)
July 27, 2005, 09:05 PM
Hey, Pete! I resized those top two images for ya. :) Feel free to grab these and edit your post with them.
Here's my kids, Meghan is 11 and has run 10 in row at trap. Robert is 4 and bugs me everyday for a .410. Couple of more years when he can hold it himself. Also other G3 is evident. Sorry for the low quality, the dude taking the pic had enough juice in battery for this shot only (group pic). And missing from picture is the G36K, M-14/scoped, several handguns and G3-s.
