Speedfeed on 1187 Express don't fit?

Not long after duck season ended, I suggested to a hunting partner that he should get a Speedfeed stock for his brand-new Rem 1187 Express Mag (no "safety" lock).

He liked the idea, and bought one online under my advice, which I only got from other online gun-nuts. I've never owned one myself.

He received it quickly, and it was a genuine Speedfeed stock kit, but the buffer tube hole in the stock is about 1/4" too high too allow the rear stock to seat in the receiver notch properly. I thought we might throw'r on the drill press and wallow out the hole in the stock, but there's only about 1/32" of plastic between the buffer tube hole and the screw access holes. Plus, we thought it best to return it before we messed it up and figured out it might not work.

Anybody else run into this problem? Did you fix it, and how?

hey yankytrash, do you and your friend live in the richmond area? i would first send the stock back and get another one. make SURE it's designed for the 11-87 model (which the 11-87, 1100, and 870's are pretty much compatible). i know a few good gunsmiths in the richmond area that would be able to help you out.

As a matter of fact, I'm only about 45 minutes North of Richmond. We do all our major shopping in Richmond. Care to share a couple names, especially someone who would be willing to talk this over on the phone? We checked and triple-checked, and it was an 1187 stock kit.

TTI and Charles' Place are both just north of Greentop on RT. 1 (both are on the left hand side as you head north. they are all about a mile or so apart.), and they both do good work. trapper john of TTI mostly builds competition weapons (AR's, 1911's, etc) and does custom jobs. Charles works mainly on hunting rifles/shotguns, but he'll work on anything you want. he does an absolutely wonderful parkerizing job. i know he's getting ready to parkerize a bunch of guns (including mine), so if your friend wants his done too, y'all might want to get down there soon. he does have about a 3-4 week wait though because everyone seems to go to him.
