Tonight has been a great experience for me. As i type this i am under the influnce of half a ffith of alcohol. Let me tell you tonight at the bar i had some very interesting conversations, especially with anti democrats. I sat at the bar while most of my friends were half a room away. I was very friendly with the people sitting next to me. One of them was a well educated guy that just graduated from a nearby christian university. I live in a very bad part of town but this particular university cost close to $30k/yr. and is practically in my backyard.

Anyway, we got to talking and the subject turned to gun control. During the conversation I casually mentioned i carry and he got VERY interested and defensive. I showed him my CCP and he started asking alot of question about why i carry and such. He then asked me if i was carrying. I explained to him that when i consume alcohol i do not carry my gun but rather less lethal alternatives such as OC and my surefire G2. I explained to him and his friends that had gathered around that those of us who do carry realize that with the right to self defense comes the burden of responsibility and that when we know we're in these environments we take the proper precautions, such as leaving our guns at home. They were VERY impressed by my display of responsibility and i fielded a number of comments and concerns about how they thought most of those who carried were the cowboy types who wished to draw upon anyone posing a threat to their ego.

I just figured i'd share, as many of them asked how to aquire a CCP and got my number so I could help guide them through the course of the process and take them shooting.

Anyway, I'm drunk, goodnight.

Wasn't it Churchill who also said, "I may be drunk but you're ugly and I'll be sober in the morning." ?

I'm glad your smart enough to lock up the piece when you plan to have a few...

Cause, In the immortal words of Lynnyrd Skynnyrd, "If you like to drink cold whiskey, you might even shoot yourself." (I'll bet you guys LOVE that tune around here!)

Another one I always liked by them, "I drank enough whiskey to float a battleship around." of course the title to that one was "Gimme Back My Bullets".

Happy Hangover...

I'm not saying wether I do or I don't myself, but are you sure it's legal to carry OC under the influence of alcohol? I'm sure a police officer would be less than thrilled to find OC on your person while you were under the influence should you find yourself in a circumstance where an officer had a reason to frisk you.

Yeager, I thought you said you were "Invisible!" I was thinking I am not the only one. :)

I get asked a lot of those questions as well. Most people are imppressed when I tell them how careful most permit holders are. They naturally assume a lot that isn't true because of Hollywood and the media.

A lot of people just can't grasp the fact that gun owners are responsible. I've talked to two or three folks who claim that CCW holders would be likely to just pop someone out of frustration. >_<
Good on ya, mate.

I don't care to voluntarily diminish my capacities myself, but if your gonna do it - that's a pretty good activity, I guess. Just glad that bad part of town didn't reach out and bite ya in your less than fully capable, mostly unarmed condition.

Let us know if any of your drunk companieros actually call for firearm instruction/advice, eh?

I ran into this guy once who was so hammered he was standing there out in the back lot of the bar, in the dark with some of his $ around him on the ground and more sticking out of his pockets. At least $100. I picked it all up and stuffed it deep down in his pockets for him and sent him on his merry way. I coulda used it at the time too.

He thanked me.

I've also heard bourbon, a c&r license, and an internet connection are a dangerous mix.

Well Joey, that post was too well written for me to believe you had half a fifth. I bet in that condition you'd walk the line just fine.
Next time, please make it interesting and Finish the fifth before posting.

You told a bunch of people that you weren't carrying, and you were drunk or working on it at the time? Wow.

Good thing they were apparently nice people, and no not-nice people overheard. I don't think I'd be telling total strangers my carry status at a bar or a night club. Lots of people get followed and mugged when they stumble out of some place after flashing lots of cash or shooting their mouth off.

Sounds like you got lucky...I wouldn't recommend having that sort of conversation again.

He did his good deed for the day. Each of us should be so lucky as to have the opportunity to make a positive impression on an uninformed individual (or group of individuals). All the jawin' on the net combined (convincing one another that we are right!) doesn't add up jack *****. A real live face-to-face conversion (or at least, the opportunity to convince one of the brainwashed to listen for a few minutes) is the way we get there...to paraphrase AA, "one good deed at a time."

I have a shirt (it was a gift) that reads, "WARNING: Consumption of alcohol may make you think you have mystical kung fu powers." It has a picture of a stick figure in the crane kick stance from Karate Kid on it (not the real crane stance). I tried to explain to the gift-giver that I actually DO have mystical kung fu powers, but they attributed my explanation to the same reason they bought me the shirt :uhoh: That is completely irrelevant.

I've had many a drunken conversation about firearms. It's funny, even when intoxicated I can convince reasonable people that carrying a weapon has nothing to do with the trash that antis spew. Apparently my arguments are airtight. I also don't carry while drinking - NOT because I can't control myself or can't think rationally (insert standard stupid argument about mental abilities here) but because I'm afraid that if I have to use the weapon, I'll go to jail even if I am completely in the right. Maybe I don't let myself get as drunk as most people, I dunno.

I locked up my Kimber before I left the house tonight because I knew that I might have a few. Turns out that joey's half a fifth is about 1/4 of what I had. Yay - alcoholism from two branches of the family converged on me and gave me high tolerance :uhoh: Typing is no problem, speaking is no problem (just had a conversation with a lady friend that had no idea I'd been drinking), and thinking straight is no problem. I completely understand where Joey is coming from...I've been there a couple of times :)
