I am interested in everyone's opinion that has fired the Glock model 30. I posted this over at Glock talk and have only heard good things about it. I have noticed that you see very few of used ones for sale. I am going to go rent one this weekend and see how I like it, but I wanted see what others had to say about it.

I've never owned a 30, but I've shot a friend's 30 quite a few times and I was impressed with it. It seemed like a great carry gun.

I owned one for a few months and qualified with it. It is lightweight and easy to shoot.

Quality was very disappointing. Way to much ill-fitted plastic, including the trigger and magazines. Trigger felt like you were springing a mousetrap. Poor ergonomics as well, with no option for changing grips.

It is a reliable gun for the untrained masses, and I would not hesitate to trust my life to it if I were issued one. But for my money, there are better quality compact .45s available in the same price range. $500 for a $250 gun is a bit much. I sold mine the first chance I had.

I've had mine for 3 years now. I love it! It may take a bit of time to get used to the grip angle and trigger, but it is a fine gun! I'm amazed at the accuracy of a gun with such a short barrel! It does feel like you're holding a brick, but carrying IWB (in my house) is easy enough, if you've got big pants. It easily conceals under an untucked t-shirt.

I've installed a smooth faced trigger and polish the internals, so the trigger doesn't feel so gritty any more. I like it!

I concur with all the posters above me.

I am very pleased with mine.

I love mine. It has never had a failure to feed or failure to fire. The out of the box accuracy was amazing!

I highly recommend picking one up. :)

They shoot great but carry like a brick. Much prefer the model 36 for carry but you do give up four rounds. Traded my G30 in for a G36 years ago and like it a lot more for carry. Good expansion out of the small 45 Glocks with 230's. The barrel is just long enough.

I don't own a G30, but I have shot several. They are incredibly accurate little guns. In fact, they just shoot nuts straight. I carry a G26 and find it a bit chunky. I think the G30 would take a bit to get used to, but with a good belt and quality holster it should carry OK.

It is an excellent gun. I have more than 8,000 rounds through mine, though the spring for the take down lever broke at around 6,500 rounds.

I don't carry mine. If I had to do it over again, I'd buy the 21 because I prefer the longer grip.

The G-30 is my favorite of all of the Glocks. Big bullet, reasonable size, ample capacity, great accuracy, and total reliability (so far). I have 2 of them and carry them daily in 2 cars. I have never had a malfunction with either of them (mostly 230 gr. Hydrashoks). You can kick them around and they are almost indestructible (well, almost). Anyway, my very favorite of the Glocks.

Don't know anyone who has shot a mdl30 that wasn't favorably impressed. Myself included. I carry a mdl36 because of it's better concealability.

Had 3 30's.
Ended up with the 29. Better options for summer, winter and off road carry.

One of these days I'm going to get a G29 upper and mags so I can shoot 10mm out of my G30... and .357 and .40! So versatile!

Kevlarman,
Just buy the complete pistol, not much difference in price.

I tried one at the range once and was very impressed. It had a Hogue grip on it so the usual beating my hands get from shooting Glocks was reduced and actually made it enjoyable to shoot. I wasn't in the market for a compact .45 at the time, so I never considered buying one. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a compact .45 though.

The G30 is the only Glock I like!

I am not a big Glock fan - I think that their full-size pistols are poorly balanced and a little bit ugly, too. The subcompact model 27 (.40 S&W) is just too tiny for me to shoot comfortably and I've seen too many pictures of Glock .40's that have gone KABOOM!.

But.....I still own a G30.

It feels solid in my hand, and with the 10 round magazine inserted, there is even a spot for for my pinky to rest (although stuffing that 10th round into the magazine is a pain in the @$$). The Glock is undeniably one of the easiest pistols to shoot - no safeties, just pull the trigger and shoot. Of course, some people hate it for that very reason - no safeties, just pull the trigger and have a negligent discharge...OOPS!

But what it all boils down to for me is this: I have something that is hardly bigger than my hand that holds 11 rounds of .45 ACP, and that is not something that anyone would want to argue with.

By the way.. my only modification was to install 24/7 Big Dot sights.

I have owned, carried and sold two of them. They are a compact, accurate, soft shooting little carry gun. The only reason I have sold both fo mine is becuase of the thickness. I prefer to carry IWB and they don't really mesh well with that style of carry.

Kman's right. There was a good article in Combat Handguns verifying his observation. With only a barrel swap, one can shoot the big 3 with impunity.

...Only in the Model 29 or 20.

I must be the only g30 owner in the world who is not impressed with it's accuracy. Don't get me wrong it's reliable as are all glocks I've tried. It's accurate enough for carry but I bought it based on all the glowing reports I read about it's incredible accuracy. I find I shoot much better groups with my g23 which is also easier to carry.
It's not a bad choice for ccw but you can probably do better.

The width of the grip on the 29/30 is a little too wide for my liking for CCW, thus I carry the 36. The shootability and capacity of the 30 are a plus otherwise.

I had a G30 and sold it. It is a decent pistol. In the realm of 3 inch .45's it is fairly accurate and soft recoiling and is pretty high capacity. It is obviously reliable.

I thought it was kind of an awkward size. I thought it was a little big for CCW and a little small to enjoy at the range and unnecessarily small for HD.

It is very close in size to a G19 or G23 which I think have a more manageable grip size (for most people) and higher capacity.

If you have to have a 3 inch .45 I guess it's a pretty good choice.

The grip is slightly big for my hand.
I prefer the G36.

Great gun but, here are my complaints:

1. There is no rail for a light attachment.
2. The magazines (10 rd) barely hold 10 rds. When you get the 10th rd in, it's very difficult to seat the mag in the gun and, very difficult to cycle the slide (to the point of possibly jamming).

I've owned two of them. Put about 10k through one of them and 3k through the other. They are pretty accurate once you come to terms with the Glock trigger. Both were very reliable. Keep an extra slide lock spring and trigger spring in your kit if you're going to shoot yours much. They are the part most likely to fail, although it didn't happen until 9k rounds on mine I've read of them breaking at half of that round count.

Biggest negative to me was the width of the gun. Even though I had read this many times I ignored it because the width of the grip felt good when shooting it. However once I started shooting 1911s and found that the SA trigger was quite a bit better, I shot them more accurately and the slimmer slide made carry more comfortable I switched from the G30s to 1911s for carry.

Well I went to the range and shot one today and all I can say is wow! It was dead on the money. I was able to put one nasty hole in the paper. The grip was thick grip on the gun but it fit my hands great. I see a Glock 30 coming to a gun safe near me :D

Yes, the grip is quite thick. Even though I have small hands, I personally don't have a problem with the grip.

Just out of curiosity, how many routinely use Glock 21 mags in their Glock 30?

I'd think hard about buying a used one. They are around the boards (this one and glocktalk) fairly often. Not much difference between a new glock and a used glock. If you buy it used and decide down the road it's a little big, you can probably sell it for about what you paid.

I've shot the G30 (.45ACP double-stack), G36 (.45ACP single-stack), and the G29 (10mm double-stack).

The G30 was the easiest to shoot. Little felt recoil and very accurate. I liked the G36 the least. The grip did not feel good & felt recoil was more than the G30. The G29 was my favorite. The recoil was more than in the G30, but it was quite manageable & just as accurate.

Glocks just plain rot for IWB carry. I tried a buddy's G19 for a while. They are THICK & uncomfy.

I would think seriously about buying used. Although I don't like Glocks enough to actually buy one, they are well-made and tough. IMO, they are the Honda of pistols.

I own and carry a G30 nearly everyday. I have found my G30 to be extremely accurate and utterly reliable with ball or hp and have not had a single issues in nearly 10k rounds. When I first purchased my 30 I didn't think that I could ever carry it comfortable in a IWB carry. I tried several off the shelf holsters from all the well known makers and none really worked out for me. I have had good luck with my Milt Sparks VM2 for my P7 and decided to order one for my G30. I am glad that I did because it is the most superior holster I have ever used. I plan to order a VM2 for all my carry guns.

IMHO I know that the G36 is a slimmer package but not so much that I would want to give up the additional rounds of the G30. To each there own though......

Many feel, including me, that the G30 is the best of all Glocks
