Got My Nickeled M57 Today!

Bought myself a nickled M57 from an ex cop in Texas.
It arrived at my dealer today and, after eating lunch and running some errands, I picked it up about two. It's in great shape. The former owner killed a deer and two wild pigs with it, but it doesn't really show that it has been in the woods. There's a very minor turn line.
I like nickel guns and this one will look great next to the nickel M58 I grabbed up a few years ago. I got several compliments on it at the gun store. The gunsmith was particularly impressed with the action.
I found almost no movement either way when I cocked the hammer and tried to budge the cylinder. It's got a target hammer and smooth target trigger with a light smooth pull. The wood grips are nice, but I'll probably replace the with Pachmayr Decelerators, since I shoot better with rubber grips.
The .41 Magnum is turning me into a collector. This is my seventh including two Ruger Redhawks and a Marlin 1894FG.
I may not be able to shoot it until Monday. It could be a long weekend.

Good Job ACP! :)
I just entered into the .41 Mag world myslef. I bought a used Mod. 57 (no dash) a couple months ago. I gotta say, it almost shoots the target itself, I get the feeling that I'm just in the way when I hold it!
Here in the U.P. it is really hard to find .41 mag ammo, thank goodness for Starline brass :p . Also, when I was going down state a few weeks ago, I stoped by Jay's in Gaylord and they had the Federal Core Cast, it is a 250 gr Hard Cast bullet rated at 1250 fps out of a 6 inch bbl. It was expensive, but I figgured it would be just the ticket for deer hunting or to have as a comfort on my side when I'm out snow shoeing where the wolves and blackbears live.
It will be what I take out to the deer stand this year!
I hope you will post pictures when you get a chance!

I cast a 250 gr. SWC from an old Lee mould and drive it about those speeds with H110. It does a fine job on the deer around me so the Federal ammo should work quite well.

Hi, ACP
The .41 mag. has always been my favorite mag. cal. I bought the first Mod. 57 S&W that hit Columbus Ohio. It was the first year of mfgr. It came with the best blue job I have ever seen on a S&W pistol, and has the coke bottle grips, and presintation wood case. I have accquired a 4" blued, and an 8 3/8" blued, and a 14" T?C bbl. At the time I bought this six" 57, you could not buy cast lead bullets for them, and I started casting lead :) bullets for the store that I bought the first one from, for about a year. I don't think you will be disapointed in a .41 mag. I have other Mag. calibers, such as .357, .44 etc., but in my estimation it does everything the .44 mag. does, plus it is less finnickey as to point of impact with what ever loads that are fired in it.

i am envious. if i find a 57, i will pay too much for it without complaint. there are just NONE in this area. i dont know why. i have a 657 and it is definately my favorite revolver. on range day i take different guns , but, i always take the 657. it and my .41 Blackhawk get shot a lot. the BH in 4 5/8 bbl is a sweet thing. you might want to try one. it is my favorite pistol to fondle. IMO the .41 is underated and should not be. the .44 is a hard act to follow. the .44 is a fine round, powerful and accurate. i currently have three of those and have had others. incidently, the M29 in 4" is a sweetie, too. guess i just like my magnums. congrats on your excellent "find".

.41 Magnum has been my favorite revolver round since I got my first Model 58 back in 1978.
The only reason I don't CCW it anymore is because I can't find an affordable Model 58 or 3" 57/657.
