A brisk search didn't turn up anything posted on this (searched for 'colt single 2'), so I really hope this hasn't been posted before...

It's got to be fake...but I want one.
From this site: http://www.mek-schuetzen.de/Sites/navi_links_handguns.htm
What's the story on this? A joke by Colt? A joke by someone else? An actual gun?

It was funded by the maker of arm casts and slings as an investment for profit gain from the stupid.

I suspect that we just located Birdman's grandfather. The fact that the same revolver is offered in both a one INCH cartridge AND a 5.5mm cartridge (probably among the largest and smallest cartridges available at the time) tells me that this was probably some kind of quip regarding some tense gunshop debate of the early 20th century. If nothing else it shows that some things never change.
I'm thinking maybe the ancestor debate to the "big and heavy VS light and fast" argument. Or perhaps the result of some generational issues regarding "new" vs "old" big game hunters. Also notice the price of $114. I suspect that too is making a statement. $114 bought a whole LOT of beans in 1904. Maybe it was a jab at big-city game hunters spending massive sums of money for African hunting equipment that they purchase based on hype and have no real ability to use.
(kinda makes me think about guys who buy .458winchester magnum rifles for white tail hunting).

"I suspect that we just located Birdman's grandfather."
Except that Birdman can spell correctly - or at least use Spell Check.
Can I get those red pouches that Wild Bill Hickock occasionally carried his Navy revolvers in for it? :D

"I suspect that we just located Birdman's grandfather."
LOL, maybe so. Gotta love that Tactical Nuke 50-50 video. XD
It does have to be fake, the thing is bigger than my head. I make a point not to fire handguns bigger than my head.

Well for a 1904 model it's odd that the ad also mentions the 5.5 Velo Dog.

Didn't know they had photoshop that far back!
Notice the extremely robust frame LOL ... and generous grip proportions. Guaranteed if fired to destroy the user, thru frontal bone fracture and brain mangling! :p

:what: The S&W X frames and the BFR revolvers got nothing on that monster.
Lord all Mighty, you couldn't pay me to shoot that thing  !

You'd need a bipod from a M2HB to do anything with it...
Talk about front heavy.
And the recoil!
