If you read between the lines, it says "You have to have a gun...if you want one."

It was done as a response to Morton Grove, IL's dumb gun law back in the early '80s.

it would be nice if you lived in a town where there was a law like that and it was enforced. you'd have tons of range buddies :p

I'm agin' the idea of laws that require people to own weapons.

Don't try to mess with my ability to own 'em if I want to, and I won't try to make you own 'em if you don't. Simple as that.

IIRC, a couple of cities around Kennesaw filed lawsuits in an attempt to get the law overturned. Seems the crime rate in nearby towns had a drastic increase following the law's implementation.


BTW, they don't really make you own one if you don't want to.

I live very close to Kennesaw and drive through there on a weekly basis. A friend of mine has a hat with a rifle on the front surrounded by the words "It's the Law in Kennesaw." It is a redneck town for the most part, and they have a similar law that says each house must own a fishing pole. There are also means for the city buying you either if you cannot afford them.

cordex, read it again. The law was passed as a demonstration of disgust with the Morton Grove, Illinois, anti-gun "You can't have one!" law. It was taken locally as pretty much a joke, and there has never been an intent to enforce such possession, much less an actual effort to enforce. Lighten up, okay? :)

I lost the link, durnit, but there was an anti trying to show how the Kennesaw gun law increased crime.

Perhaps he was referring to the neighboring towns, or muddying the waters.
