They are on the N frame.
Basically the only available differences are barrel length and I believe shape of the underlug. Not sure if they are still making the removeable compensator or not.

There are several versions of the 8-shot. The only version offered in the catalog is the 5" taper lug version that came before the V-comp. At one time or another there was a .38 super version, the V-comp (which I have) with removable comp, several barrel lengths, etc.

Guess you'll have to do some used gun shopping to find the others. They are very popular with revolver competitors.

Taurus offers an 8-shot .357 in their Model 608. It can be had in a variety of barrel lengths, 4", 6", and 8". Finishes come in both blued and stainless.

check out the smith and wesson model 327 , this weapon had a debut in a movie as well. If not the same one your talking about. A gun store close by me has one on display, its an 8 shot 2 inch barrelled titanium|scandium thing. also found its available in six shot .45 acp. The 8 shot cylinder N frame seems a little much for ccw. however it does seem very businesss like of a firearm. The smith and wesson site says its a "small frame". weight 21 ounces. length 7 inches. suggested retail 1179.00 ouch

IIRC caseydog's Performance Center .357 is one of these. Very smart gun and enjoyable to shoot.

I love the Salton Sea (I liked it so much I got R Lee Ermey to sign it, even though he was only in the movie for 30 seconds.) Back to the revolver. The product code is 170133, and was a Lew Horton special in 99. It would most likely fall under the designation 627-3, so that may help you find it.

The 8-shot S&W 327 with a 2" barrel was the carry gun of Clint Eastwood's character Terry McCaleb in the movie Blood Work. As usual in an Eastwod movie, the gun received plenty of screen time.

I kept waiting for him to say, "Now did I fire seven or did I fire eight?" :D

Actually I think that would be; "..did I shoot eight shots...or only seven?"

But I don't know, I've forgotten in all this excitement BluesBear...

And here I figured it would only be about 15 minutes before somebody jumped in to "correct" me. :neener:

Actually 23 minutes isn't bad.

Tell him what he's won, Don Pardo!

There's a Performance Center 627 on consignment at the local shop. What a beautiful revolver.
