Is $160 a good prive for a Dan Wesson 4 inch barrel 357 magnum with a mint bore and 85% finish? I'm looking for a rugged 4 inch 357 mag revolver for truck, hiking and home defense, I would prefer stainless, but for $160 I would be willing to go with blue.
Thanks

That's a great price (and I understand the new Wesson Co. is honoring warranty claims on older models).

Buy.

BUY!!!

they are wonderfully undervalued and as robust of a design as you will ever need..............my last used DW .357 in %95 cost me $225. I have never heard of a DW needing repair. They cover it here in the FAQ section though:

Hogue make a great looking and handeling Monogrip for only $25 or so.

I have some extra blue .357 barrels w/ shrouds for sale cheap:
-a 2" with a full shroud, re-blued shroud $25
-a 4" with under-cut shroud (Dirty Harry look), like new $60
........or $75 both shipped

You've hit the mother lode. Buy it, shoot it, and above all else enjoy it.
Price of used DWs usually reflects market demand, not product quality.

Buy :).

Interesting point: when you run the checkout on it (as you would with ANY used gun!), don't pay much attention to the cylinder gap width. Check everything else, but don't sweat that...because on a DW, it's adjustable with a simple tool (also used to swap barrels entirely). The tool is available fairly cheap from DW and if your gap is over .004" I would strongly recommend getting the tool and re-setting it closer to .002".

DWs have only one significant flaw: the cylinder release is on the crane, forward of the cylinder. That generally makes unloading it a two-handed process, unless you really juggle it. Your odds of having to reload if wounded and down to the use of one hand is very remote but, it DOES happen...the FBI Miami '86 shootout was a notable example.

DUDE!!!! I am starting to get a complex here. I am starting to think that there is a nationwide conspiracy to prevent me from getting good-great deals on guns. I hear about all these insane prices and all I can find are the way high insane deals.

BUY THE DW!!!!!!!!!!! That is STUPID cheap!!

if you want a good chance at deals on DW's............here is what I do:

I find one (or two) in a pawn shop that have been sitting in the case for like 6 months or so and see what they are charging. DWs are not real popular and tend to sit around for a while in pawn shops. As usual the bottom-feeder is overcharging so I shoot the crap with him about some of the other revolvers in his case and eventually get to the DW........like I am setteling for it. He wants like $325 or so and I offer $250. Right away the bottom-feeder shakes his head and puts it back in the case. I go in a few days later like and offer the same.......no joy. I then go in a day or two before the end of the month and offer $25 less (like last time) and he is usually quite happy to take it if he has had a bad month $$$-wise and there are bills to be paid!!

BINGO!

Too bad, DW is a nice 357. They tend to be a little front heavy for me (there isn't much metal under that big grip) and the reloading is a little slower... but talk about accurate!

That was a steal.

I placed a $155 bid on a Model 15 with a 6 inch barrel. I would need to buy a 4 inch barrel and the tool, but even with that extra cost and the FFL processing fee it's still a low cost 357.
Dr. Rob
I like muzzel heavy firearms, so that sort of balance won't bother me. But why do you say DW's are slow to reload?
Thanks

Now that I look a little closer at a picture of a model 15 ... where the heck is the cylinder latch?
Not that speed reloads are a big deal to me, if I can't defend my self with 6 shots I'm not so sure six more would get the job done either.

The cylinder latch is FORWARD of the cylinder! You don't operate it with the right thumb like on anything else, you use the OFF hand on it and slide it down.

That's what's weird about a DW.

Perhaps wierd to some............ but the cyl-latch mounting is more positive and solid do the geometry of having the latch above and inline with the cyl hinge. It may not be the ever popular 'tactical' though.

M38, as posted above I have a 4" and a 2" barrel/shroud assys for sale cheap
