So I was just reading about Don Bower and his 500-meter under-5" Contender shooting; best group under one inch.

Humbling, eh?

(NRA had to send a guy to disprove, but he came away stunned.)

What caliber? And where did you read this?

WESHOOT2
March 7, 2003, 10:47 PM
Calibers were all Bower wildcats built mostly on 284 cases, from .22 up to .358.

In American Rifleman/Guardian/whatever from about 95'?

T/C Super 14's; Burris glass; cases include 307, 444; details in article.

Best group (remember, we're talkin' 500 METERS) 3/4 by 5/8".

Whew!

SO weshoot2 what brings up this old article?? Yes it is intereresting and the methods he uses are reasonable duplicated by others, but are you just now reading this??

1 thing that does interest me is that these extraordanary results are not causing a stampede to this idea. Is the gun world so hidebound that they ignore great ideas???

His techniques are usable for only a few things, benchrest? prarie dog popping, or any other medium range target sport. IE just not flashy enough??

I'm 'down' for a while so I've been rereading my collected gunrags, because I forget most of what I know.

Brought this up to remind us what IS possible.

Yes, most of us are so convinced we're right that we choose to ignore that which does not confirm our beliefs; know what I mean?

World been ignoring good stuff since the beginning.............

I can to that every time (including the 1" or LESS pattern), and have ever since I started shooting.

Single shot.

Target: earth.

Seriously, I'm amazed by Don Bower! :D

Snow or rain tomorrow...Better stay indoors, like at a gun show..
Too cold and too much snow and ice to shoot out doors.. Or maybe I am spoiled by indoor range and getting too old for that
cold outdoor stuff..
Whatever have a good day Mr. Gray..

"The worst day of shootin' beats the best day of not".

NEVER. I'm goin' shootin' (wife kinda mad, "You just had surgery; you been in your pajamas for 17 days, you can't even sit without groaning, etc"), gonna WIN.

Or not.

But I'm goin' :D :D :D

All I can say is besides having fun be carefull..I am sure that your long suffering wife would not be happy if you opened an incision

Stay warm and dry..

She ain't been sufferin' long. Just a few weeks :cuss:

I WILL be careful; I'm takin' her car! (AWD Subaru, automatic; snowin', hill)

I'd take a caddy, to lug stuff between stages.

Great, besides getting griped at, you get to fill her tank up...(dang sneaky women). :D

Accuracy...I shot a quarter with a P-11 from 3 yds...guess that don't count...huh?;)

I used to make some money: Undercover, handload (took , 15 tries :banghead: ), 20 yds, 410 shell.

And, using my 40 S&W Witness (factory match barrel fit by me), handload (remember that load off the top of me bean = 180g Rainier TCJ-FP, 3.9g Bullseye, new W-W nickel cases, CCI500, OAL 1.125"), '98 S&W Invitational, shot a fly on a target at oh say 8-12 yds from an elevated platform, in front of witnesses :what:

Other than that I suck :neener:

"shot a fly on a target ..."

I can not condone killing just for a trophy.:D

Edited to add, daytime temps range up to about a sunny 70 degrees right now. Surf isn't much good lately and CCW is close to non existant.

500 METERS - 3/4" by 5/8"

Jeezus. That's better than a laser. (The overall size of the hole, that is.)

WESHOOT2
March 9, 2003, 09:31 AM
1) The fly deserved to die.

2) Daytime temps keep dropping to a 'frisky' 12F; about 27F right now, and snowing so hard Dr. Zhivago would get lost.

3) No surf; everything frozen, but I (and you too, if visiting) can wear guns most anywhere.
And pass over the double-yellow :neener:

WESHOOT are you saying that you got snow this morning ??
Guess that cancelled the outdoor shoot today..
Down here it was a very nice day with the sun shining with a little wind..
Went to the gun show and was rather dissapointed.. Seems like
there was a lot of non gun crap and what there was for guns were damn overpriced.. Did sell the S&W I took down there so I can order the Docter sight for the unramped 38 super 1911..

WESHOOT2
March 11, 2003, 10:47 PM
We'd stop for lightning.
I think.

But snow? Hah! I spit on snow!

I was slow; dirty gun puked; great fun, much pain, wind chill.......

May's match (can't shoot in April, too much mud) should be warm.

Youse guys are my heroes. I love shooting in bad weather, but when it gets that bad here the match gets canx since most of the folks can't drive ducks to water in the snow around here. I might have to take a Vermont winter vacation.

WESHOOT2 what your club needs is a indoor range.. What do you have up there an eight month winter ??? Snow and ice must
make it difficult for you run and shoot guys and girls.. Are snowshoes an option or required equipment ??
Actually you people have to be commended for shooting under
such harsh conditions..
Dedicated or ?????
